Hi:
So I have a browning with the hard glossy finish on it, that needs to be refinished.

Anyone have any experience stripping this stuff of? What works well?

What is a good product to use to refinish it that has the same hard glossy look?

Thanks in advance

Strip: Circa 1850. Let it do it's work, use steel wool with it when needed.

Coat: Tru Oil will give you a shiny and hard coat, if you layer it right.

There are other choices, of course - but I have used these two items a few times now on different stocks. Search through the forum, there have been multiple threads on this topic already.

Furniture stripped will take it off with ease. I use a hard dish brush for areas not so easy to get at. Plus x2 for truoil finish! Will take 6 coats usually.

I just redid, well still finishing up on one stock and tried the Min-Wax oil.
Nice stuff.

One problem I've always had is streaks and runs.
Yesterday on the one stock after a couple coats of Min-Wax guns stock stain I used
Tru Oil with a rag.
Far less frustration with what I mentioned above.
This will be my go to way for applying this finish.
Way nicer job with less smears and runs and overlaps and such.

Strip it with any chemical stripper and then use PlastiKote Spray Paint lots of colours and very tough stuff

I have used the Circa 1850 in the past on a Browning stock and it took a few applications to get it all off, but it did work.
The last can of Circa i bought appears to be a new formula, does not seem to work as good as the old stuff. I might try an automotive stripper next time i work with urethane finish.
