My wife has a pretty sketchy past when it comes to buying me Christmas presents. Ill admit, I'm hard to buy for because I have specific and expensive tastes, but I'm a friggin Christmas superhero, I blow her mind every year. This year was my turn.
No hints, no clues... I had NO idea what she had got me. I knew i went WAY over budget on her gift and it was awesome. But all her comments led me to believe she had no idea what to do, which would likely garner bad results.
When i picked up the box on Christmas day I was so confused, it was heavy, but not that big. Then I pulled off the wrapping paper and it revealed brown shipping paper... no idea what it was. Then I pulled the brown paper off and saw the UTAS logo... I was like... No Way... I said that out loud.
Sure enough, she bought me a UTAS 15, brand new. My brother had bought one on the crazy black friday sale and my wife over heard me talking with him about how I really wanted one but couldnt justify buying it at the moment. She talked to him after in secret and got him to buy another.
Usually she owns me lots of "favours" after Christmas as thanks for me going overboard. This year she got the "favours"... which was a win win really.

My thoughts on the gun after a day at the range:
-Fit and finish is sub par really. I knew not to expect much in that area, reports of the Gen 4's having less than stellar fit and finish were common so my expectations were low. In the ned they weren't exceeded but it wasn't below my expectations either.
-Its way lighter than I thought and ergonomically its excellent. I was surprised at how comfortable it shoulders. Controls are good safe for the slide release button... thats just a stupid location for a slide button IMO.
-Take down is amazingly easy. For a gun this internally complex, its a breeze to take apart and clean.
-All functions of the gun work EXACTLY as they should. And they all work well. I found nothing to complain about in terms of function.
-It runs perfect. Took it out today and put 100 rounds of cheap bird shot (2 3/4) through it. Not a single issue, not a double feed or FTE or jam or any issues. I knew to cycle it hard... so I did. But it was surprisingly smooth as well. Not Fabarm smooth, but cycling was light (even against the spring). It fed flawlessly. Recoil was light. It was simply a pleasure to shoot.
Im super happy with it. Way moreso than I thought I would be. Its a keeper. Only thing it needed from me was a rail mounted on the pump handle with a Magpul AFG. Also needs a new grip... magpul inbound will fix that right up.
