Today MajorMike brought over his new prized possession. It is BGen Radley Walters Englis Mark 1 Browning Hi-Power 9mm.

It is in excellent condition... I'll let the pictures speak:

So it's a Mk1 and not a Mk1*? Hmm... interesting. Must have left Cdn service very early if it did not bet the * upgrad which happened fairly early on in manufacture (the most significant change being a different ejector design).

As you likely know, all Inglis Mk1/1* pistols with the fixed rear sight were redesignated No.2Mk1/1* in the 1940's. Those still in service by the late 1950's had generally all received the upgraded markings (No.2 markigns electropencilled or engraved onto the slide). The tangent sight models were marked No.1Mk1/1*.

I've even seen a gun marked No.1 Mk1, then a * added in a different font, then the whole thing lined out and No.2Mk1* added. Such a pistol started as a Chinese contract Mk1 redirected to Canadian service, redesignated No.1Mk1. Then got the * upgrade, then rebuilt into a No.2Mk1* in the 1970's.

Nice Inglis you have there :)

Awesome pistol, that's an amazing piece to own.

And it's BGen Radley - Walters, not Bradley. Hence "General Rad".

Claven2 The Generals Inglis is indeed a MK 1* and not a MK1 , I know that's what the old paper work says but ,well , you know how easily the beaurecrats can miss a small detail like that don't you? They did get every thing else correct though, even the serial number...hard to believe I know but they did!!! Mike

I was also lucky enough to obtain the Generals issue holster & his lanyard along with the Inglis......all in used but excellant condition. Nice to have such fine mementoes of a great man....they are quite special in my eyes. They fit in well with my other WW2 era collectables , most of my gear has a lot of sentimental value as they belonged to my father Major J.M. Benkhe R.C.C.S. deceased Nov. 11th 1983. Rememberance day is indeed a very, very special day for me, a time to remember my father and all of those fine young men who gave it all away so that we could be here today enjoying the life that they never did. I think that I will stop at that before I go getting too teary eyed to see the keyboard . Mike

To round out the "ephemera" for Rad's Browning, you need a copy of the 1945 Army movie "Green Fields Beyond" that tells the story of Tank Bomb that the Sherbrooke Fusilier Regiment took from DDay to VEDay without getting knocked out. She exists, and is the only Allied tank to have that honour.

The second item is a copy of Jackson's book on the 27th Armoured (Sherbrooke Fusilier Regt). It was a limited printing for men in the unit, so if you find a copy get it quick.

BTW, I saw a story about the October Crisis. Rad was 2 Brigade Commander from Pet' who commanded the troops in Ottawa.

Great catch!
