So with my Model 12FV sitting here awaiting the arrival of a Bell and Carlson stock I've been looking at getting a bi-pod for it. The stock I have ordered has only one swivel on the fore-end and another on the butt. I was thinking that since it will be quite heavy, wouldn't it be nice to sling this 10lb+ beast instead of carrying it in my hands. I'm going to get a harris 11"-25" pivoting bi-pod for it but here is the question:
Where do you place the bi-pod for the best balance? Should it be dead center of the balance point to make it easy to turn? Or should the weight be behind it, so that you need to lift and support the butt pad against your shoulder?
I'll be using this mostly from a sitting position and I think the recoil (what little there will be) might be better for keeping an eye on the target through the scope with the weight behind the bi-pod. But I'm asking for the voices of experience here since I'm a bi-pod virgin to date.
