I was born in and grew up near Red Deer. Back in the day I collected many dinosaur fossils in the badlands (mostly between Trochu and Drumheller.) In the bottom photo that is a dinosaur femur in front of my window when I lived near Innisfail. Along with a local deer. However, the biggest animals I have ever shot were just moose and all I needed for them was my trusty 30-06.

I'm really not much of a cartridge collector...all these big bore cartridges (and at least 20 more) came to me in one lot at an auction. There were very few bids on them. I'd like to get more and trade off all the old American ones that I have, but I don't see how collectors buy/sell/swap these days...if you can't send them in the mail and there are no gun shows...how does that work?

It doesn't work very well at all, as a matter of fact. Add to your points that the Canadian dealers in single collectible cartridges are fewer than ever, and the combination of US export restrictions and the pandemic effects on travel have made cartridge collecting rather difficult. For example, I can still find the odd black powder or vintage European cartridge that I want, but I haven't been able to find a domestic source for the couple dozen rifle cartridges I am looking for that have been introduced in the last 15 years.

If anybody can scratch that itch for the recent cartridges, please speak up or PM me.

Not being able to go to shows( all cancelled) has put a major cramp on my ammo collecting. But luckily there are a few good members ( cgn) that have a great resource for chats and some trading. Shipping has become a big pain and added cost . But there are still many die hard collectors. I got started on shot shells then African big game cartridges and just started snowballing from there . I know try and stay under 40mm and have started to get more into head stamps. I have yet to focus on any one calibre or type, I just find them all interesting but I do have a soft spot for the weirder types.

If they are components ( empty cases, just projectiles) I have shipped by C,Post. If live can par and FedEx . By no means cheep . If you have a trucker friend and can arrange pick ups . I have in the past bought in bulk to help spread out the cost per cartridge but that is also extra cost . But for the rarer piece , bite the bullet and pay the shipping $$$. Hopefully the shows will start back up this fall ( just returned Red"" here in my area) Hope is all we have for now .
