Big bore rimfires to circumvent mag capacities

I'm sure this has been thought of before but I wanted to spur some discussion on it again. What if a manufacturer such as Hornady, who manufactures rimfire ammunition and has some expertise in that field, were to design and develop a cartridge that is ballistically identical to popular centerfire cartridges but in a rimfire format? The idea being that with a (reasonably) simple change in chamber dimensions and bolt configuration, full capacity magazines would now be a reality.

This of course assumes that bringing back centerfire full capacity magazines isn't happening, which I think we can all agree isn't gonna happen anytime soon if ever.

Would you be interested in pursuing such a venture? Even if the ammunition cost was more than the equivalent centerfire cartridge, would you buy and shoot it?

From what I have read it can not be done. Rimfires obviously have to have a soft rim in order for the firing pin to crush the rim and ignite the powder. Since the rimfire cases are soft and weak so to speak they can not stand up to the chamber pressures that are seen in centerfire cartridges.

I've often maintained that more .22 WMR "tacticool" options should be explored. I'm positive I saw an aftermarket 30-round mag for the Ruger 10/22 Magnum but since it went out of production there's no point in pursuing that.

I would really like to see .22 WMR conversions of popular "black" rifles but it seems our niche market doesn't justify it.
