I've posted up before asking about the biggest goose you've shot and we didn't get any definitive proof of the mythical 20 pound Canada I keep hearing about. That being said its a new season with new opportunities for someone to prove they exist.
So... Let's see your biggest goose of this season...with a scale and something universal for size reference. Perhaps someone else could think of some rules to keep it a level playing field.
I'll toss in some sort of prize at the end of the season for the heaviest Canada Goose. (Won't be anything worth cheating for so let's keep it on the strait and narrow.)

I like this idea. I'll play.....but I'll have to wait until I shoot a goose bigger then an oversized mallard. Ok, thats an exageration, but I haven't shot anything to brag about yet. Would be interesting to see if anyone shoots any Giant Canada's this season

Is it on The Duck Hunters Refuge they have had an ongoing 20lb goose contest where the first 20lb goose weighed on a certified scale with proof wins a bunch of full body decoys and after I don't know how many seasons now the prize has yet to be claimed?

Wasn't it Paul from Aero Outdoors (DropZone Decoys)? Offering it up for the 20 Lbs goose? It's been awhile. Seems like the ones I shoot only reach single digits lol

That contest ended a few years back. He had to Lower the weight each year till finally he left it at 15lbs. And finally a kid sent a goose in. And guess what it didn't even weigh 15 by the time it dried out and arrived it was 14 something. But they did a experiment and left another goose dry the same few days compared weights and proved it was just over 15lbs when shot. The kid got the dozen decoys as the prize.

A Canada "can" weigh 20lbs. Captive raised and fed. Even ones to be released can get that heavy 18/20lbs. But for a naturally occurring goose even the maximas, in the wild. It simple cannot be. The amount of energy and calories a waterfowl burns daily while flying is mind boggling. They released maximas here in the 80s and we've shot a few with the golden crowns and even they were in the 13.25lb range. Biggest goose I've ever seen.

Agreed 100% and I said the same thing on another thread in here the other day. I shot a monster of a Canada years ago. I grabbed it by the feet and threw it up over my shoulder. As I was walking back to the pit I could feel its head banging off my calf. I am 5'10" with a 32" inseam so no not NBA height but not a midget either. On the Berkley electronic fish scale at home that evening that bird showed 14.6 pounds. Biggest one I have ever taken. Shot a number in the 12lb range and a couple in the low 13's but they are not everyday occurrences. Most when weighed to settle an argument with the 20lb crowd come in at 10 and under. It sure shuts up the guys who think a giant Canada goose is the size of a Turkey! LOL

Thread revival!!! Since this thread did get much traction last year, I figure I'd try to get it going again. Opening day has come and I have a bird that I can contribute to a 2017 rendition of the thread.

Top bird was just over 10lbs and bottom bird at around 13lbs. The bigger bird was loaded with grain and also wet at the time I put it on the scale

Wetting them down doesn't count. Reminds me of The Beachcombers episode where Relic stuffed a salmon full of lead weights to win the fishing derby!! :p

Haha! I was not reponsible for bird being full of grain, but I was reponsible for it dropping into the lake. Im sure it passed the 13lbs mark because of the added weight of the water though. Still nice to see the scale upwards of 13lbs....but im sure the dry weight would have been somewhere in the 12's
