Big purchase .... please advise!

Yeah, not a screaming deal by any stretch of the imagination.

You could probably get something better for a lot less. I liek the Blaser too, but they're not fiscally responsible unless one falls into your lap for a song.

By the time you get it re-barrelled to a cartridge you want, you will probably be up to the price of just ordering a new one. P&D seems to have a good reputation, I'd look into the one 1899 mentioned if your set on a blaser.

Thanks for Epps.
Yeah they have the R93 Offroad at $2650 but with tax that's $3G's, and then I'd still need a base and rings. The price of $2300, all in, still sounds good to me as that's at least $1000 off ... which is the equivalent of a very nice scope!

That used Weatherby is a mighty fine gun and seems like a good deal but I'm not crazy about fluted barrels or muzzle brakes.

Earshot...

I don't know where you get your Alaskan Moose hunt prices from. If you are suggesting to someone, who is interested in high quality workmanship, that a Stevens 200 is somehow a suitable substitute, then I think you are missing the point. Not that there is anything inherently wrong with the Stevens.

Well guys,
I am beginning to see the light ... or rather how light my wallet would become. It's a very tough choice because I really like the Blaser but it has been my experience that there are always deals and opportunities to be had. I just hope that if I pass this up I won't regret it down the road.

1899 you're right about not liking the Stevens and quality workmanship is a must for me. Sorry Haywood, but I do appreciate the suggestion.

I've looked through the for sale section of this site and there are a few goodies there.
But I might just hold out till after the hunting season and see what becomes available.

Good idea, after huntin season, all kinds of rifles become F/S---mostly from the guys that MISS and then blame the rifle :p ( usually just an excuse to but another rifle for next year)
