Pondering one of these in 500s&w
Wondering if anyone has one and your thoughts?
Worth the cash?
With the current cost of a marlin, and the amount of extra cash(trigger, smith work to smooth it out)
It is really not much more cash.
And looks to be a much nicer rifle than a marlin even after you pour some cash into one,
Thoughts?
 
There's one in EE, in 454 casull for iirc $4500, saw a retailer thread a few.days ago.....$7100.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love one. How though, can anyone justify the cost. It's a close cover, short range hunting rifle, range toy, $tatu$ symbol. Absolutely would not be walking through a alder or salal thicket.

If by some chance, I was to get one. It would be in 460sw. More available choices of projectiles, ability to use 454 casull and 45lc.

They say themselves that the 460 doesn't play nice with the shorter cartridges.

Big Horn Armory makes the Model 90 in 460 S&W, Model 90A in 454 Casull and Model 90B in 45 Colt for a reason. The cartridge length governs how any cartridge feeds through our lever guns.

The cartridges guides, carrier, cartridge stop and barrel are all designed to use and feed a specific cartridge over-all length...

Of course there some allowances, but cartridges must be within a fairly narrow length range to cycle through each of our chamberings...

While a 45 Colt will shoot in any Model 90 type and the 454 Casull will shoot through the Model 90, it is unlikely that any will cycle properly in a gun that is not specific to the individual cartridge.

So please don’t be disappointed in your Model 90 doesn’t feed 454 Casull or 45 Colt through the tubular magazine. You can always top feed the shorter cartridge through the open action and still shoot the shorter cartridge in a gun designed for a longer over-all length.

And yeah, $7100 is nuts. Must have been an extra fancy one or something, because the base model is like $3500. Like you I'd love one, but that's more than my truck cost...
 
I got to play with 1 a while back.
Tuff time finding a load that it liked.
2.5 to 3.0 moa was the best I could get..
The grip feel over sized In my hand, also need an angle eject to same that sweet.sweet wood stock.. wow
Very nice fit and finish. Was disappointed about the accuracy even with a bedded rear stock .
 
I have a stainless Rossi 92 in 454. I did pay enough for it but nothing like BHA prices. It shoots the same ammo, its accurate enough, and I'm not afraid to take it out hunting, thats a win for me.

Is it as nice as a Big Horn Armory? Nope, not even close.

Thats mine in 454. It will shoot the 45 colt single shot but won't feed it. And a buddies 460 won't feed 454 or 45 colt, but will single shot just fine.

Mine in 454 had trouble with one Winchester factory load but has been great with others, it likes Hornady and Buffalo Bore. Odd the accuracy you found wasn't great? Was it the 500?

I've chatted with them when I first got it and BHA was great to get a hold of and ask questions, I assume their customer service for issues like accuracy would be great as well.
 
So I did buy one of these, and it is fantastic.
One thing happened while out bear hunting last spring. The rear stock broke! right in the palm, grain of the wood going the wrong way.
I contacted Profit River, they had the distributor call and line up warranty work at Calgary Shooting center.
The gunsmith from there called me, and said he did not like the replacement but stock that came from the distributor(it did not match the forend)
He called Bighorn, they called me.
They were super apologetic, and said the distributor should have never sent just a butt stock, she took pictures of all the exhibition grade sets they had instock, let me pick the one I wanted and they finished it and sent it to CSC for final fitting.
I thought this was very nice, as my rifle was a base model wood when I bought it, but they felt so bad for sending a stock where the grain of the wood was not correct, that they up graded my stock for free. And she is stunning now!
I hand load 400gr Barnes busters and 350gr Hornady xtp and have some Hammer 400gr on the way.
It shoots as good as I can with open sites 1.5" groups at 100 yards, even loaded some reduced loads with Campro 350gr bullets for plinking.
The wrist area of the stock is thicker than a marlin or a winchester and that takes a bit to get used to. But the rifle overall is amazing, the fit and finish is as good as any custom out there. The 500s&w smashes stuff with athority.
It might come to Africa with my in 2028, I am not sure if I will bring it or my Weatherby.

I have one. The trapper version. I’m a lucky one and mine loves to shoot nice and tight with everything. It really smacks stuff even out to 300 yards.

Mine wears a leupy scout in QD rings

Just the closed cover for me is enough to turn me away. Kinda weird that they havent update a feature everyone prefers in this world of modernized, optic ready lever guns
