Some have their reasons for mounting otherwise, usually to do with the carry-mobility of it, or misunderstanding some of the consistency related reasons for loading the bipod the same way for each shot.
Feet forward also allows the use of the barricade stop function. This can be usefulq against some odd natural rests you may encounter in the field. Also allows the bipod legs to take a beating instead of the rifle when shooting over hard rests like rocks/log/branches /misc fencing.
