Bipod Choices

Hard to give up my Harris bipods. I want to go to a Grnd pod, but not sure I like the play in the legs/mount ( will only increase over time ) vs the solid lockup of the Harris. I wish both the Harris and Grnd pod had a wider footprint.

Just about everyone makes a bipod that works with a pic rail or M-lok, choices go from $75 to $550 depending on what you want and how much money you want to spend, prophet river has some of each in stock priced reasonable

Just bought a few over bore bipods recently. Normally avoid UTG like the plague but their over bore bipods are built like tanks. Pleasantly surprised.

Honestly, once you add a pic rail mount to a Harris, it's more expensive than the Grndpod (pic rail version) and although it might be faster to deploy (especially with the paracord trick) it's ####tier to adjust. Just an honest comparison, I have Harris' with all the add ons (RRS pic/arca adapter, podlock, spike feet/Atlas feet adapters), Ckyepods, Grndpods, had a Magpul... I wouldn't throw out a Harris but I wouldn't buy another one either...

Much better value propositions these days then the Harris.

Once you spend a bunch of money adding features that a modern bipod should have, you are spending as much or more on better made more modern bipods. And you are still left with a bipod that's made out of stamped metal and has a propensity to break.

I have 3 or so Harris bipods, they are all on airguns now. I wouldn't buy a Harris today. The GRND-POD seems like a great value bipod. Atlas makes a very decent bipod and you can find blemished ones on sale.

Harris might not be the new cool, but they still have their place. Attaching to a sling stud can be convenient on a wooden stocked rifle that you don’t necessarily want to be a tacticool competition tool. Harris does it well.
I’ve had a bunch of atlas bipods and still have a few. When I was looking to attach a pic rail or arca to my new 457 mtr, I just wasn’t into messing with it. It was nice to just clip on a Harris and be done. It’s more than capable and maintains the classic look I wanted.
I was able to find one new for around $100. A $12 Amazon lever and it’s good to go. Still half the price of a grnd pod.
I’d consider it more than adequate for the $2500 rifle/scope package it’s on and don’t feel like I’m missing out on style or usable features. It’s a bench gun after all…

Grnd pod is decent. Decent value. Also the Grnd pod Mlok connection keeps it at a nice low profile. Works and looks great.

Harris has its uses. Anything with only a sling swivel for instance. It’s the basic standard. Value wise though newer bipods like the grnd pod make it harder to go Harris unless for a very specific reason ( looks/sling stud/ weight/ function/use) I try to match the bipod style/type to the rifle, similar rifles may have different bipods.
