Bipod for an AR?

Looking to figure out what I need to prop up my AR15 when at the range. The range I'm probably signing up for doesn't let you stand with your guns. You must be seated at the bench.

Is a bipod my best option, or is there something else I should be looking at?

What size bipod is recommended for shooting an AR15 at the range? 6-9 inches OK, or should I aim for something like 9-13 inches?

If anyone has specific bipod suggestions, that'd be appreciated for sure. I know Atlas makes some great ones, but I don't know if $300-400 is necessary for a bipod.

Any feedback is appreciated :)

Does your AR have a rail or handguard with mounting slots? If not it kinda limits you to the vietnam era M16 bipod or a shooting bag, the latter is a great piece of kit to have in general.

If so Harris bipods are pretty good with a variety of mounting options. I also feel the new Magpul one will be a winner but you might have to wait.

I would try to avoid cheaper airsoft bipods and the grippod.

I use a harris 6-9 and it works well for me seated at the range and prone but ymmv.

This. Magpul also released their bipods that are in the same price range as the Harris ones (~$150) with multiple different mounting options for picatinny rails, M-Lok or the standard bipod studs.

I also saw a Harris adapter that mounts on the bayonet lug... wish I could remember where. Also, if you don't have a rail, I've seen rail adapters that mount on the bayo lug and if you're running old-school 2-piece plastic handguards both Cadex and GG&G make rail addons for those for about thirty bucks US.

Just some more ideas to consider. :)

Ah yeah, guess I should've specified. I have a T.R.I.M. handguard (Wilson Combat's system) that I can mount a picatinny rail on - so I think I'm good to go!
Appreciate the insight :)

Will definitely stay away from the ones geared more towards airsoft, and basically anything under $100 probably.

If you want a harris style, My friends that bought a caldwell were happy, at first.... they all ended up buying a harris. The caldwell is just not as solid/reliable.

Some of these rules are so ridiculous...

As for your question, it's hard to beat the Magpul Bi-Pod for the price and features.

Something else you should be looking at? Yeah a different club.

Barring that, I use Harris 6-9 with a KAC sling stud adapter.

Thanks for the help everyone. One last question.

Will a 6-9 inch bipod be OK for me for shooting at a bench with my AR15? I will be running full size 30 round mags if I can help it. So let me know if that is an issue.

I am kind of leaning on getting an Atlas BT46 or BT47. The BT47 (7-13 inches) is just so damn big.. but if the 6-9 inch is going to be barely just big enough, maybe I should bite the bullet on the bigger one.

Never mind. Went with the Atlas BT46/PSR version or whatever. Got the 6-9 inch. Figure if I need it bigger, they make 3 inch leg extensions anyway.

I think I have a real problem. I came here asking for good bipods, I literally ignored all of your suggestions and went with the most expensive. I think I picked the wrong hobby.. I'm like $7k in and don't even have my PAL yet! WTF!

Atlas is the only way to go on an AR ! and it doesn't look like absolute trash like the harris !!!!

You made a good choice ;)

I got the Kinect MLok adapter to make it even faster to install and remove !!!
