I was wondering if anyone could tell me if they have ever installed a bipod mount in the hole forward of the front sling swivel on their M14 USGI fiberglass stocks?

I am not sure where to get the mount (the standard stud which would allow mounting of a Harris bipod), but I wanted to find out if it would be as simple as feeding it down through the hole and possibly using JB weld to secure it.

Thanks for any help.

You can buy the machine screw studs at most gun stores. I would use a backing plate. Ideally, if you can drill and tap the plate for the 10-32 thread of the stud, you could avoid using a nut and have more clearance. You don't want the stud or nut contacting the gas system. I mounted mine rearward of the swivel plate. Could be superstition on my part, but I found my gun shot the best when I supported it closer to the mag and not the tip of the fore end.

my two cents.

I had a bipod installed with a swivel stud.
To do it, I removed the original swivel plate and used the hole (closest to the mag). Reinforced it and used the 2-R Harris adaptor.

Let me tell you these bipods take a beating and I found a bipod to be too flimsy to rely on, removed mine, it's for sale on the EE.
but that's just me, I find them even too unstable on a rimfire, I'd just rather use sandbags

I have yet to remove the adaptor, it has been reinforced as I said before, but if I manage to remove it I could give it to you, free of charge

Thanks alot for the advice folks. And thank you for you offer of the swivel Charles, much appreciated.

Cheers!

I've managed to remove the harris adaptor alright, no damage done to the unit.

mind you I filed the swivel stud threading because as it was, it was too lnog and made direct contact with oprod.

send me a PM if still interested

I found a m14 specific bipod adaptor fit like a dream on my stock. Right about the sling plate set-up there was one hole there ment for this aplication. I know Fab Sports has some;

Also you could always ask M14Doctor but I think his computer is still screwed up, so he might take a bit to respond.
