Ive got a Henry Mares leg that is a blast to shoot, but im just not a fan of the shiny brass receiver. I like my guns more tacticool. I have ordered some Brass Black and was going to apply it to the receiver and other brass parts to darken it.

Has anyone used this product? Have any pics or tips and tricks. Ive been searching but not much comes up online.

I used it to darken brass on a M1907 sling brass fittings and brass rivets on certain rifles.
it didn't go so well at first… then i realized they were covered by a clear coat.
I sandblasted them with a very fine medium and reapplied it… worked great.
Just make sure the brass you are working on is free of any oil or protective coating
The one on the right is a treated one, the left one is one i left shiny, obviously.
I only used it on small parts so i cant say for a bigger area but i would imagine it's the same and not too difficult.
Apply with a cotton swab and use something like maybe steel (or brass) wool to blend and ''remove'' (or shine) high spots to give it a more authentic look.

Thanks for the pics! I’ve read that it’s not too hard to remove it if the results aren’t to your liking.

I imagine to remove it one would have to buff it, a lot….no idea how deep the black is so before doing a full firearm i would get more information.

As far as I know the brass receiver cover on the Henry is not real brass, but a coloured coating on a zamac part. Don't know if brass black would work on Zamac.
Another option would be to contact Henry and buy a receiver cover in black

What I’ve read is that the big boy receivers are machines from a solid block of brass

Yes, absolutely right, Henry Big Boy receivers are indeed solid brass. The original post did not make any mention of Big Boy, hence my confusion.
