Hi there,

I've been doing research for the past month or so regarding a good bird gun for lefties. I am kind of stuck and was wondering if anyone had some suggestions for me.

I have a set of specifications I would like to adhere to below:

-20 gauge
-left hand friendly safety
-neutral cast (or even better, cast on)
-semi or hinge action (SxS preferred but will consider O/U's)
-light (around 6 pounds)
-26" barrel
-$2000 or under (I dont care if it's $500 or $2000, i just want a gun that fits properly)
-wooden stock

I currently have a Beretta 391 Urika 2 12ga which I love. It's a great duck gun but a bit cumbersome in the bush/field. i can always fall back on another 391 in 20 ga but I'm wondering if there are other options out there.

Thanks,
-Paul

Have you looked into getting a cast-off stock bent for you? And I guess you'd have to use a single selective trigger as well, rather than twin triggers.

No, I haven't. I don't know any reputable gunsmiths that I would trust to do that. If you have suggestions for anyone in kitchener/waterloo area let me know. And yes, single selective trigger for a double gun.

I would say that side by side or O/U would eb your best bet since they are ambidextrous, unless you had a left hand specific pump or semi, you would find it annoying to shoot.

Browning Cynergy are cast straight and meet all the other criteria you mentioned.

I'm a lefty and have really enjoyed mine. It's a composite over/under in 12ga with 28" barrels and a tang safety/barrel selector that I really like. Hope this helps.

What are the main differences between the Cynergy and the Citori? I'm under the impression the Cynergy line is more modern, but how so?

you want cast off you don't want cast on cast off takes the recoil away from your face and aliens your eyes down the BBL cast on does the opposite .

I'm a lefty and I use and old 1100. I love it. Fits well and the empties shooting out infront of me have never bothered me at all. Never really even noticed actually.

I agree with Savagelh, I have an old 1100 and have never noticed the hulls ejecting out the right side of the reciever. Actually, I prefer to have right handed guns (I am a south paw as well) as I can imediately see what is going on in the event of a jam. I put an old "Uncle Mike's" left hand safety in the gun years ago but the regular safety was really just as fast. Besided, I don't think they sell those safeties anymore due to safety concerns.

If you are thinking about a pump shotgun, the Browning BPS and the Ithaca Model 37 shotguns with their bottom ejection are good choices.I believe the safetys on these shotguns can be reversed as well.

Safety on the BPS is on the top of the receiver.

Grouse Man, I know that double triggers are not designed for leftys, but I have never had an issue with mine (when I remember to move my finger!). A lot of left cast double guns have (right hand) double triggers, never heard a complaint before.

Browning pump bottom eject / Winchester OU

I'm a lefty and bought a 12g Browning BPS for a turkey hunt and find it very left hand friendly, but for Upland hunting I found a Winchester Model 96 xpert 20g OU at an auction and I really enjoy shooting it.

The mechanicals are totally different, the stocks and fore ends are different. Other than both having been made in Japan and both being over/unders, they are completely different guns. I really do not like the Cynergy. It just didn't feel "right" to me. The Citoris felt much better to me and would be my choice over the 2.
