common trend last few years of goin reasonably hard an often around the week of my birthday.
no exception this year but a long story of a failed atv attempt into deeper bush, i returned toward the vehicle on dark and in the paddock had this stag standing there above me on a track across a hill with a handful of gum trees and blackberry.
i idled down the atv an reached back to unzip the bag with the 9.3x62 got off an took a shot from about 70meters. a solid wack but definatly a bit far back-- with darkness beating me to the animal i had to wait until after work to track from the shot and found it dead 400m away with no sign of struggle. just piled up.
not ideal off the atv but on the farm fringe and especially paddocks its common to take em when you can-
interesting that some animals are rutting around while thie guy was just poking some tips through the velvet on most tines... a bit later than usual-
a nice sread with about 27 inch long antlers- guessing 32+ width
shot with 250gr RN woodleigh
Cheers- getting old saarrrrckkkss!!
"hunt smarter , not harder"
is it common for you guys to shoot animal off the quads, like moose etc?
