The numbers pretty much tell all , for geese and ducks . The reason, is for older fixed choke guns, with tight chokes, and 2 3/4 chambers. The 3 inch is cause I was shocked at how well the numbers looked, and would maybe be worth a look.
Want 2 3/4 in for sure, in 1 3/8 oz loads, with high brass(#2 and BB), for the old guns.

Density is about 75% that of lead. Logic would dictate moving maybe one shot size up from what you would use lead for, one down from steel. (agreement?)

If loaded ammo ... Kent "Impact" non-toxic (tungsten matrix) is
IMHO, a far superior waterfowl load, and no problem in older guns,
and especially those with tight chokes.
In my older guns, it patterns better than most premium lead loads.
Expensive, but definitely worth it !

Kent TM & Busmuth both are safe to shoot in any nitro proofed gun. Heavy shot is harder and will play hell with older guns. If you check into HS you might note folks like Cabelas, Briley and others have been promoting special chokes for it. Because of the shape of HS (eliptical) it is prone to having excessive fliers so the recommended choked are much tighter than the usual modified used for steel and also have thicker walls. At one time, Beretta published that they would not warrentee their barrels for Heavy Shot, altough that may have changed. I understand that Remington has dropped HS in favour of a new formula & Heavy Shot is now marketing under their own name. I load Bismuth in my 16 ga guns and have had very good results. I do prefer Kent TM but they had a 80% price increase last fall and I hear that they have stopped production -- and will sell off their remaining stock.
