Hey all,

Just curious if anyone here has picked one of these Non-Restricted CX4 barrels from Bits Of Pieces (in .40S&W). How do you like it?

I've been on a wait list with 'Bits of Pieces' for over 1 year. Waiting is a major turn-off.
Bits of Pieces barrels are well made and the best priced, but I'm now willing to pay more to get one now rather than never.

I've already contacted Ellwood Epps, but they want the entire gun and will take 2 months.

Can't anyone in this country make a barrel from a barrel as a template and have it done within a week or two?

I have my original Storm barrel already removed and ready to be replaced. Any suggestions? :)

Thanks

I am in the same boat. I had two 9mm barrels from Barry, one was thin profiled (sold with the gun though) and another one is now re-born as 357SIG. But 7.62x25 is still in the making since last June. I think I will never get it, Barry keeps on moving deadline by two weeks every two weeks. And the joke is - I have a lathe machine and a reamer. And a barrel wrench.

It's always 2weeks :( ...seriously, that gets old fast.

We need to find a reliable source in Canada for non-restricted CX4 storm barrels. I'm surprised no one is up to it. Seems like easy money to be made :).

I know Epps had a problem getting barrel blanks for awhile, I had to wait 6 months before they could get one. They use the heavy barrel.

Tagged for interest.

This is something I've been thinking about for a while, but unless you manage to get a good deal on a used Storm, the price adds up pretty quick. By my math it would be around $1650 or so (new).

Still, it would be nice to have a still compact .40 with 10 round mags that you could take anywhere.

Ok,

I just got off the phone with a CFC-Tech:

me:
"Can I have a piece of barrel, with rifling welded to the end of my existing barrel in order to make it non-restricted?" (my plan was to have a piece of .45acp added to the end).

him:
"Yes, but, the exterior of the barrel with extension must appear continous. The inside rifling of the extension must match up to the rifling in the original rifling appearing almost seamless; same diameter, same rifling, etc. We require a photograph of the finished work."

So there you have it. Now, is it more work to go this route or easier to have a second barrel made :)

Near impossible to weld a rifled section on to the end of an existing barrel and have the rifling line up properly (ie. "seamless"). Let's not even get into the fact that the barrel is hardened (in the area of 30RC) and the extension would be hardened, and you'd have to heat them to cherry to weld it in the first place.......then you'd have the problem of having to re harden the whole she-bang so it didn't go ka-bang in your face..............
