Hello all

I may have bad luck. Decided to get into .22 rim fire approx. 5 months ago.
1st gun: Marlin Papoose ss: Arrived with ++ surface rust...didn't think stainless steel could rust.

2nd gun: Marlin 39a: One of the best right???Wrong. Had approx. misfire rate of close to 40%,with most ammo. Fix done and improved to 20% misfire. Then action started becoming hard to cycle...became close to impossible to feed rounds...gun sent back.

Today:Received my Browning Bl-22: Wanted to see how firearm cycled. Put some LR rounds in...first round jammed while feeding...not even close to feeding. Attempted to guide round to chamber...can see by one of pics not even close. Feeding ramp (if thats what it is underneath the round) seems far too low. Round is stuck.

Please anyone with suggestions to fix please write back, i have little experience with fixing firearms. Also, a link to disassembly of this thing would be great.
Thanks +++ for any assistance.

With that in mind I would suggest this repair/dis assembly/assembly is over your head...

Get it to a Browning repair depot is my suggestion.

Bad luck for sure.
Were all these guns bought new?
My Bl-22 like most levers likes to be worked with a firm stroke open and closed...is it possible you are working the lever to slowly?
Seems odd that you cant eject the cartridge in the first picture.

Managed to get the .22 LR round out. Looks like the rim of the casing is not following the path all the way up...to where the firing pin is---gets stuck 1/2 way. Cycles well with CCI stingers long and CB, and also with Remington rounds. Doesn't like the value pack federals, tried the Federals again the same thing happened, but this time cycled 5 rounds fine then jammed, round removed and cycled more then got jammed again.

Worst case is that i stay away from bulk ammo, very odd. Thanks for any/all input so far. Thanks.

Wow!---I have fired thousands of rounds out of my BL22----mom and dad bought it for my 12th b-day----lets see--------28 years ago! and it has never failed to feed like that.
When my little guy started to shoot I dusted it off and gave it to him and we started to have some failure to fires----thought it was bad ammo but brought it to gunrunner100 and he got the old girl up and running smoothly again----I'll tell him to check this thread and he may be able to give you a hint.

My guess is that the rim is hanging up on the firing pin, not allowing the lifter to bring it all the way up. It's possible that there is a burr or it has been apart before and the firing pin/firing pin spring is out of whack. These are well made little rifles, but if it's not put back together correctly...
This is just a guess, without seeing it.

i had to look hard to find take-down instructions.

UNLOAD GUN1!!!!

pull hammer back to half-####(not fully cocked)
open action 'till bolt just touches hammer.
remove screw from right side of receiver.
pull butt-stock rearward from receiver.
CAREFULL OF THE EJECTER AND SPRING-the spring could fall out and get lost.
tilt/lift off bolt from action.

forgot to add:
remove mag tube 1st before taking gun apart.

if you are "mechanically challenged" then don't do it.
the spring/ejecter require a bit of finesse to reinstall...

I agree, sounds like a burr. I have spent some time just cycling some ammo though in hopes it "breaks in" possibly lessening the burr, i have noticed that even the federal bulk ammo is cycling better. Initially 1 in 4 would get stuck, now its maybe 1 in 10. All other ammo has fed flawlessly, tried about 6 different types. Just seems smoother.

Thanks also for instructions on how to disassemble, impossible info to find...and i looked for over 1 hour.

Monday is range day, if the worst is poor cycling with federal bulk i will live with that.

Thanks again for input, saved me $30 shipping and a 2 month wait.

Is this gun brand new? If not I would return it to the seller and get my money back. FS

Yes gun was bought new. So at least have a warranty if things progress, right now i can live with it. Thanks for info.

I had exactly the same BS occur last weekend with my BL22. Got the round out, tried to chamber an different brand, same thing. Got that round out, but something is damaged and the hammer will not go to full ####. I didn't realize these expensive guns were so delicate. Anyone want it?

Seen the BL-22 for sale on EE. Re:the lever not going to full ####...is the hammer spur stopping it? Have a BL-22 myself and looks like the hammer is being stopped by the spur. Can the spur be removed without damaging the wood? It's worth a try and will up the value if it works

Also, to update everyone on my BL-22. Took it out today, worked flawlessly with all ammo...even the federals that previously jammed it. Can't figure it out, looks like a keeper...finally. Thanks for all the tips.

i found a gunsmith forum online and downloaded a very detailed explanation of problems/solutions with the bl22.
if anyones interested i'll scan it and post it...

That would be great!
BL-22's are a little more involved then the other lever action .22's..
