Bl C(2) question/confirmation

I am going to load Bl C2 powder for my 22-250. Normally try at least two sources of data for confirmation of min and max powder charge to use. For a 55 gr bullet my Lyman book (45th edition) states min 34 gr, max 38 gr. Hodgdon's site says 31 to 34 grains. I'm used to seeing a grain or two variation from different sources, but this is too much difference to ignore. These are the only two sources I have access to offhand. Can a few people cite what their reloading manuals say for charge weights? Thanks in advance...

I checked my Nosler, Hornady, and Barnes manual, and none show BLC2 as a powder choice for the 22-250 with 55 gr bullets. It's probably too fast of a powder to use in a large case like a 22-250 to be a good choice. I use BLC2 in more modest cases like my 222. Why BLC2 for your 22-250? Do you have any slower burning powders on hand?

I like the Lyman book, but occasionally it has loads that are too hot. So in this case, I would go with the milder Hodgdon data (plus, it is a Hodgdon powder too). If you get to 34 grains and everything still looks fine, (cautiously) keep going. I'd want to do this with a chronograph. And also remember all the usual things, like temperature sensitivity, and that ball powders often build pressure a bit quicker as you're working up a load, etc.

BL-C(2) is more or less equivalent to WC846, which is used to load 7.62 NATO ammunition. While it may or may not provide the best results, it should have a suitable burn rate for .22-250, given that it has a bit less case capacity than .308/7.62.

H335, W748, and BL-C(2) are all cannister grade powders that are fairly close in burn rate to surplus powders like WC844 and WC846 that have been used to load 5.56mm and 7.62mm ammunition. This is not to suggest that they are exactly interchangeable.

Also when referring to load data published in a book...use the most recent (by date) that is available and that should give you the safest maximum loads that have been tested. Phil.

I decided to give it a try since I a scored an 8 lb bottle of blc2 for cheap and I do a fair bit of varmint shooting. I have 4 lbs of H414 too, maybe I'll just use that up instead.

Blc(2)

I have cz 550 in 22-250. I tried imr4350, imr4064,h380, benchmark, and BlC(2)
The worst was the benchmark 31.6-33.6 grs. was the range
Imr 4064 was best at 36.3 grs.
h-380 was best at 39. grs.
imr 4350 was not that great
The BLC(2) was the best out of all of them at 34.5 grs. I tired 32.5, 33.5, 34.5. I was surprised and pleased as i did not think the h380 would be beat.
I also varied seating depths and was 10 thou. off the lands for best group.
The bullet was a Nosler 55 gr. Ballistic tip. All my loads are off of books and nothing past maximun listing.
I would give it a try, it might surprise you too.
