Received my op rod spring guide from m14 but it won't fit....
I cant slide the flat part into the receiver...

It's too big. I don't the my micrometer with me (it's at work) so i can't take mesurements until monday.
Is it normal to have to file/grind some material? I was under the impression they where drop in mods.

Any input/ideas is welcome

Thanks

Every spring guide/receiver combo I've handled is a drop in fit in the receiver slot. All manufacturers included though I haven't handled many "black arrow" guide rods. I've "installed" zero black arrows , much prefering the S&J hardware version with the excellent spring that comes with it

Can you measure the width of the slot in your receiver?
It wouldn't surprise any of us if it was too narrow, though I haven't seen that myself.
I have 6 or 7 norincos on hand I could measure

I had to polish the two of mine to make them fit (1x Norinco-Plinko and 1x Springfield Armory M1A). I personally prefer that they are tighter as it means less slop but it is a bit of PITA to install.

ok got a hold of a micrometer and took some measurements:

Black Arrow flat part is 0.137
Stock Spring guide is 0.127
receiver slot et 0.133

looks like i have some filing to do:mad:

I would bet that m14.ca would have assisted you with a new one. Surprised frank didn't respond here. Modifying your receiver was not a good idea, possibly damaging the essential hardness layers needed to withstand the natural movement of the spring guide as the rifle cycles.... but what's done is done I suppose.

way to hard, my file was'nt doing anything to it....

But it is the cheaper part. You always modify the cheaper part! You only needed to lose 4 thousandths of an inch. A little time with some sandpaper and you would have been golden.

why do you prefer the one from SJ?
