A general question to all you IPSCers, whats the expiry date on
your black badge?
Mine was 12 years and now I've gotta do the course again
and I have shot a match on average every month since 1994.
Has anybody else experinced anything like this?
I would like to know who else has to do the course again.
Thanks and all the best
Dave

In B.C. I don't think there is an expiry date but if you don't attend any matches for I believe 2 years you need some sort of up dating and if it is longer than 3 to 5 years you need to take the whole course over (I'm sure exceptions are made for out of province or country matches attended). This makes sense because at lot of changes take place and your skills are not up to par if you are not participating in IPSC matches. The numbers above may not be accurate but they are close. I'm sure someone here will correct them

Are the matches you are shooting, sanctioned IPSC matches? If they are, you shouldn't have to recert if you shoot every month. But if you are in Newfoundland, is there an active IPSC section there?

Black Badge

Thanks for the feed back guys and I hope none of you guys\gals ever have to
go through anything like this. I almost had a ticket bought to the nationals
and find out that my badge is no good.
Yes I am in Newfoundland and yes even after the club ceased to
be affiliated with IPSC Canada we still carried on as if we were,
using the same rules and regulations for every match.
I think I will retire this year anyway, the sad part is that I didn't get
to shoot in a national or international event.
That means I will retire undefeated in this province.
All the best and safe shooting.

your black badge expires from not shooting a match for 2 years

so if your last match was in 2004 your black badge expires in 2007
no dont quote me directly this might have changed since i learnt about bbc

Black Badge

Gunnar (ARMCO) told me that you have to take the course over again if you haven't shot in an IPSC match for four years. That is in BC.

NewFoundland has not been affiliated with IPSC for the last seven to eight years. For this reason there is no IPSC in Newfoundland. They have been out of the sport for so long that everyone there will have to start over and take the Black Badge course over again.

That's too bad. I guess a lack of population and $$$ to afford that kind of shooting would put a damper on it though. One more reason to visit NFLD but not to live there.

Let me get this straight, so some of you have answered the age old question
(if a tree falls in the forest and there's no one there to hear it does it make any noise?) As I said before, we at this little club, and sometimes we were down to less then 10 members have scheduled a match every 3 weeks since I joined in 1994 on average I have shot a match every month and we have followed all the rules of IPSC. Basicly what everybody is thinking and don't want to say is because we were not paying IPSC Canada a bundle of money every year we didn't exist, and now if we want to play the game again we have to pay even a bigger bundle of money and go through training all over again. For me and I only speak for myself here (I don't think so).
Personally and again I only speak for myself here I think IPSC is more interested in money then fair play and the sport of practical shooting.
The preceeding is my opinion and mine alone and I make no reference to any person associated with any club or orginazation anywhere that they support me in any way shape or form both written or implied.
All the best

Like any non-organization there has to be membership fees in order to exist.
The "bigger bundle of money" as you say is where? The fees for matches, where IPSC gets most of their money is very low in my opinion compared to the thousands of dollars shooters pay to buy guns and equipment.

The cost to take the Black Badge Course in minimal. The majority of the fee goes to pay the intitial membership to IPSC, then the cost for the instructor to put on the course. I have never heard of an instructor getting rich by putting on the Black Badge course. Most do it because of the love of the sport and to get new shooters into the game. Most intructors in BC only charge $150.00 to $175.00 which includes membership to IPSC BC, IPSC Canada, black badge book, exams, a place to shoot and targets and a lot of extra volunteer time by the instructor, who has volunteer to take the intructors course, is probably voluteers as an RO and is an ACTIVE VOLUNTEER for the sport. So your idea that it is a money grab is way off base!!!

Perhaps someone on the East Coast will volunteer to go to Newfoundland to put on some Black Badge Courses or an RO course for some qualified shooters so you can open your section again.

First of all, unless you know what the hell you're talking about you should keep your mouth shut. You obviously don't know squat about IPSC and how it operates.

To take the Black Badge course again in Ontario for example costs a person absolutely nothing. As for IPSC in Newfoundland, I understand there are a couple of Black Badge and Range Officer Instructors heading out there very soon at Newfoundland's request to teach some courses so that Newfoundland can get back into the game. I don't see where IPSC is "only interested in the money". Maybe you should look into things before shooting off your mouth.

Whoa down there Kemosabe, this kind of venom is best saved for something more important like the anti-gun nuts! It doesn't help the IPSC image by alienating anyone who may be interested in our sport. You know the saying "you can catch more bees with honey..."

Wow

Matchlock you have me at a disadvantage because I don't know you and if we have ever met please remind me where and when. You seem to know quite a bit about me and my knowledge or lack of knowledge about certain topics. Nearest I can figure we've never met so I am unable to comment on you or your knowledge of anything. I am at a loss as to how you can comment on anything I may or may not have any knowledge about.
Therefore I must ask you to keep your personal comments about me to yourself.
My comments on IPSC are not aimed at any one person but at the orginazation and yes they may be out of line but they're my opinions and we're all entitled to our opinions.

If I have offended anybody with my comments and opinions I apologize.

Crapshoot you and Matchlock are correct there are arrangements being made to bring in an instructor and recertify all members of our club and some new members.
All the details and dates are not final yet but the cost appears to be at a minimum.
All the best and safe shooting.
Matchlock maybe we'll cross swords someday on the range in a match.
I think I would enjoy that although I'm getting older and not as fast as I used to be I still enjoy a good match.
