Black Badge Instructors Course

So...what is required to become a Black Badge Instructor in your area?

I've search the websites and IPSC Ontario spells it out. I choked when I saw the requirements. I don't remember them being so long and detailed. I was unable to find any more details on other IPSC Canadian Web Sites.

Were they changed in the last year or two? And did these requirement come from ISPC Canada and or IPSC World Body?

Just checking. Maybe some other Nutz out there would like to comment.

Below is the starting criteria to becoming a Black Badge Instructor.

You must be a current member of IPSC.
You must have successfully completed a Black Badge Course.
You must be a currently certified NROI Range Officer (one year minimum)
You must have a minimum of 80 hours assisting at least (2) two different instructors. (this must be on record with IPSC Ontario Headquarters)
A currently certified instructor must recommend you in writing.
You must be able to complete all the Black Badge exercises.

Yes that's for Ontario.

What about the rest of Canada?

That's the min / basic requirements. Other provinces may be a little more strict. It boils down to being recommend and accepted!

First off the world body has absolutely nothing to do with the Canadian Black Badge course (there is talk of having a world course but i think it will be up to each region to use it or not.) In Canada each section is responsible for administrating the BB course. there are guidelines for becoming a BB instructor but i just looked at the NROI site and they are not listed. Each province differs in what they want. In Alberta you have to do three courses with an approved instructor, you must be a range official and you must be approved by the Provincial Training Officer. it works for us.

I helped out on perhaps a dozen or more BB courses, and wrote my exam just in time for the split within IPSC Ontario. Subsequently, I chose to cease my efforts to become a BB instructor.

Politics aside, from my own observations, there seems to have been an effort to keep the title of BB instructor from becoming a badge of indifference. By that I mean there seems to have been an unwritten understanding that only people who actually can teach, that will get out and deliver the program, and have the dedication to keep it professional, will be promoted.

I don't want to disparage other organizations, but how many people do we know who carry a series of credentials that they never or very seldom use.
