black badge, which gun to use?

How many mags do you have in either gun?
I would use the gun that has the most magazine you have. You will need at least 4-5 mags.
Personally I would pick the SA 1911 against the DA 226 if I have enough magazine for both. Single action will be easier to use compare to the heavy trigger pull of DA SIG 226. IMHO.:) :)

I brought both my 226 and my 1911 to my course and it gave me a chance to practice with both. Make sure you decock the 226 before you put it back into the holster after loading, I make a visable check, to make sure I pushed the decocker all the way. The 1911 is make sure the safety is on.

I agree with nog, magazines are a must. Also take the pistol you feel most comfortable with. If you do not have extended mags for your 1911 you may want to consider the 226 as well, all though, extra reload practise is a good thing. :)

I have 6 mags for each gun. My quandry was all the drills that are ...draw, shoot. I was thinking that the DA would definately be more difficult. But on the other side, would it make more sense to learn and get good with the harder of 2 guns?

You might want to take both as 500 rds of .45 can get a bit much.

Then 500 DAO trigger pulls might strain your finger too.

Just take some plastic mag loaders to save your thumb.

Probably my best choice is to bring and try both. Do the instructors have any issues with changing guns throughout the course?

Check with your instructor.

I'd suggest that you pick whatever pistol you're more comfortable with and whichever one you think you might compete with.

I did my BB with a 1911 and switched to a CZ75 for part of it, only to finish up with the 1911. Ever since, I've competed with a 1911 type (STI Edge). I still find it difficult to switch between a Production and a Standard gun if you're trying to be competitive.

For the course, you want to the use the gun which you'll have the easiest time shooting quick/accurate shots. Most people will find the DA first shot being a problem, but in the course you'll be required to put the safety on for movement and mag changes - with the Sig, you'll need to decock for those, so in some stages of the course, you'll have two DA shots, all under a time limit.

Do the course with the 1911, and then shoot matches with whatever you like. The whole point of the course is to get through it with as little pain as possible, haha, so why add the extra burden of a DA shot, when you don't need to.

If you go with the SA 1911, check the thumb safety to ensure that it operates smoothly with little extra effort and it has nothing on it that will carve up your thumb. You'll be using it a lot (it doesn't slow you down any)

Obvious answer - use the one you are most comfortable with. I did my BB in February and I didn't see a need for more than two mags. Later you will need a hundred eighty-seven! :p By the way, I used (one of) my 1911.
