Anyone have back stories ? I mean are they really to stop the glint of the bayo ? How much more are they worth, a local shop has some for 250... Damn I want one, not even to shoot... Just to have. (God I hate cleaning corrosive, also super lazy)

I was really lucky and picked one up at International Sports last year at their Xmas sale, paid $149. I put it in a black Tapco Interfuse stock, looks wicked.

AS far as I know the black bayo was made for refurbs and not to stop glint or anything like that. I suspect they just had some kicking around that had been changed for whatever reason.

Here's a pic of me with it....

Yeah mine showed up with a black bayo... I like it. I paid $200 taxes in about a year ago. I was curious myself about it.

Lookz like a Wicked place to shoot! That Tapco stock is def. one of the better looking ones for the SKS. I have the exact same set up. {Minus the back bayo} but I have some bbq paint somewhere.. but then again it's a Spike anywayz... :p $250 seems High for a Russian these days, Corwin I think has them for $219. & Plenty on EE for $200 range.

I have 2 55/56black Bayo SKS and think they are the coolest looking Bayo for sure, you shouldn't pay more for it. It is just one factory's way of refurbing! Our CTC had one in stock and was asking $189. Till the had to stop selling for a while! When they put them back on the shelves you should check around you CTC! Or contact our sponsors to see what they have to offer, lots around for sure!

Yeah its a great place to shoot, its in the Chilliwack lake area maybe 2 hours from where I live but worth the drive. Lots of dead end logging roads, clearings etc. I like the Tapco much better than the ATI myself, think it looks much better... If I recall the whole set up there cost me around $300... hoping for another SKS deal like that this xmas

I got a Non - Refurbished for $200 at a Gun Show. It looked never fired/issued. IF you can find all matching # non-refurb, no Forced Elctro Stenciling/ No ###XX on Stock, it's worth it, they may go for higher, but often are in the mix for the $200 range. But people will pay a premium for those ones. I found another non-refurb recently on the EE for $200. It has a really shiny bayo. I think the previous owner polished it himself..? not sure. Waiting to receive it still. Best $200 you can spend in Canada! Just gota keep her clean if you shoot corrosive, which is cheaper & more abundant to buy.

1050's Russia... anythings possible :p When did they Refurb these? Then, or at a later date? .. Interesting thing on mine is: According to the Serial # & Markings..{or lack of in my case} would date it one of the Last to come off the line, I guess late 55/56? BUT mine does Not have a chrome lined barrel. Which is unusual & Which is fine, as it is very accurate, more-so then some commercial rifles. I also read on some forums that they put a # on the front site post.{above the front of barrel} a 1, 2 or 3. 1 being the most accurate. Have no idea if this is true, {heard conflicting Expert opinions} but mine has a 1 stamped into the front site post. The SKS is one of the most Interesting rifles out there... with so many variables etc. between all the countries/factories, there is a Plethora of info floating around. As long as we keep shootin' em!!

That'd be a preservative/rust inhibiter. Nothing to do with stopping glints. Think about Soviet/ChiCom military doctrine. Hordes of illiterate conscripts charging across the Steppes.
I wouldn't count on buying anything like a bayonet in Cambodia.

I bought a 1950 Tula a few years back from Lever, and at the time, they all had black bayonets or black bolt assemblies. I chose mine with the black bolt, the dark bayo seemed weird to me at the time......

Tell me where you get your information on this?
