Black bear weight estimate (w/pics.)

Here's my hunteress with her first game ever. A nice sow taken at 220 yards with her .30-06 (180gr SP)

Now, here's a quick question for the bear experts...

How mutch did this bear weigh whole if the carcass (no hide, head, guts) weighed 200lbs?

Just under 350lb.

A good estimate - maybe even more.

Last year I shot a deer that weighed 200lbs on the hook (without guts, hide, head and legs). The guy that helped me butcher it looked in a book that suggested it would have weighed 360lbs on the hoof.

I would think a bear hide is heavier (with more fat) than a deer so it would be over 350lbs.

You normally just double the weight as a general rule. At 350-400lbs that's a good size sow.
