Ryan, what do you know, if anything, about all the reclassification hype? A voice of reason from someone in the know would be helpful...
I'm not Ryan but here's what I'm hearing from Ottawa:
1-Nobody particularly wants to open a can of worm, and gun legislation is the mother of all can of worms;
2-That won't stop any party from making some noise in order to fire up their base, no matter which side of the political spectrum;
3-So the chance that there's any changes to gun legislation is slim to none, but if there are some changes:
4-The chances that ARs go from restricted to prohibited is almost 0%. But if that was to happen, there would be no grandfathering, no new 12(x), no buyout, no nothing. You turn yours in and it gets melted or you're a criminal;
5-The chances that ARs go from restricted to non-restricted is also close to 0%;
6-The only way to make the law a bit logical at that point, is to reclassify all semi-automatic rifles as restricted. No one has outright said it, but it seemed like the rcmp is tryingto push the cabinet in that direction. Wheter that would apply to centerfire rifles only or also to rimfires doesn't even seem to be discussed, mostly because those in power have no clue about anything related to firearms. All they see is that it doesn't really make sense that the AR15 and the Bushmaster ACR/AR180/Tavor/VZ58/[insert all the NR semis here] are treated differently. And since de-restricting the AR15 (see #5) is a no-go, the only way out of this mess is to restrict everything else.
But don't give in to fear. The chances of any changes being made at all are very little. The only reason I see #6 as possible is because I heard there were some preliminary talks about how to implement it.
Now since this is a dealer's forum and no the legalese forum it'll be my last post on this subject here. For now all I can say is great price on the receivers, I'd get a couple if I had to to build them.
