So I got myself one of those short barreled bolt action rifles. Tried to put the bolt in, didn't work. Read the manual, nothing. Found that card "Quick starter guide"

It says to turn the seer out of the pivot. "If you can't do it by hand, use a vice". Nobody can do this by hand let me tell you that. Now you want me to put my bolt firmly into a vice? What if I break it?

Now I have to go to a gunsmith to do this for me, you jokers?

For a new gun????

edit: please read my last post, it may not be BCL which is to blame.

I turned the end cap of the bolt with a thin leather belt around it and channel lock pliers.

I did it with the bolt part way in to hold it.

It didn't seem like a big deal to me.

Friend of mine got one and there was no extractor on the bolt face.

I managed it now with some tape around the end and pliers but it slipped in one of the holes and the second time the spring came out. But third time is a charm, but needed a third hand to help.

Excellent idea, they should write this instead "by hand" or "vice".

Or better, deliver it properly and put a cap on and warning sign "don't move bolt assembly before inserted into rifle". If they are concerned about safety, it comes with trigger lock, just put it on.

Watching them over the years the only time they did well was getting the jump on the bcl102 ar10 it was a proprietary piece of crap. Then they were steam rolled by stag arms.

Gun is sold with the bolt uncocked. No big deal.
Actually, clever..safety wise. Gun cannot be operated til it get to somebody who know enough about firearms - read the instructions, on how to #### the bolt and insert it.
Yes, if you are not strong enough to do it by hand, use a vise to do so to have more grab is an advice given by more than one manufacturer.
You don’t need to be a gunsmith to do so.

Each time you clean a bolt, remove the firing system, it has to be cocked thereafter to re-install.
Savage is done by hand (for cocking not disassembly) Remy need a tool to do so and most if not all 700 action pattern do.

Heck..even Anschutz bolt have to be cocked for install.

If you cannot dissemble a bolt and put it back together for maintenance, and thereafter #### it, buy a single shot.

I've got one in 7.62. 1st time out and had light strikes. BCL included a part to put in front of the firing pin. Took bolt apart, installed and voila, no more light strikes. Not a big issue if you ask me. Btw, goes bang with authority (12.5 inch barrel). Used some cleaning cloth and grips to #### the bolt. If you can't do basic s**t to maintain a gun, go play video games....

OP did you call or email Carrie at BCL. She would have walked you through how easy it is to fix.

I have the Bison 223 with a 12,5 inch barrel and its a fun gun to shoot. I was able to turn it by hand using an old bike inner tube. I have had zero issues with BCL customer service. Carrie is a pleasure to deal with. She answers her emails very quickly. In my opinion BCL customer service is top notch.

I base my opinion of something on what I've actually seen, or reports from members I know and trust, especially when it comes to NEA/BLC. I took every opportunity to handle, or shoot one. I have no doubt they've had some QC issues, clearly they did, and most people reported quick service, mailing out a replacement part that day. That said, every rifle I've held/shot was nothing like what I read about on threads like the way this one seems to be developing.

As for they didn't tighten this, or this was scratched, makes me wonder if any of you have purchased an actual entry level rifle from any of the other firearms manufactures. If you're spending under $1500 (these days) you best be prepared to put on that armourer's hat, that or go through the hassle of exchanging a perfectly good rifle.

I can't think of a factory rifle that didn't have something wrong, my latest, a Remington 783 has an extraction issue, use to be every other shot, now I have it to one in five. Why put up with it? it shoots 1/2"-1/3" five shot groups regularly, I'd buy a new PGT bolt head before I give up that barrel...but I should have #####ed, and got another, never realizing the gem I had right?

Here's my problem with NEA/BLC threads, some rookie comes on with a problem that most of us would have sorted out easily. That's not to spit on the OP, just stating the facts. It doesn't take long before people chirp up about what they've seen etc.. Thing is I know that one of the biggest drama queens (long since pink) use to crow on about how he saw one blow up. Thing was the Rifle didn't blow up, and he wasn't there when it happened, they met weeks later, it was all spelled out in this train wreck of a thread over a failed flash hider! Anyway the guy was abusing the crap out of his rifle, that was pretty clear, then he came on here moaning about how the rifle couldn't take the beating he was dishing out to it, and then used this very sub-forum to browbeat the vendor to exchange the rifle for something else...I would have told him to hit the street.
