Whatever color gives our rights back, it really doesn't matter as long the party that is waving their colors holds to there word for once. When was the last time a political party has done that, not in my life time...not anywhere either...

All be voting CPC this time as always...will see...what they can do, or are aloud to do...

I for one firmly believe that our leaders are selected and not elected anymore anyways..

You guys are paranoid. The CPC could have made all black guns restricted or prohibited right now with encouragement from the other parties. What makes you think that when they hold all the cards they will do anything different when though could have done it already.

They haven't scrapped the long gun registry yet. That is the key.

IF they get a majority, they'll have the power to scrap it.

They push through the legislation, and along the process see scary evil black guns are considered non-restricted. When they re-rewite the laws, they write it such that they are restricted or prohib. End of story.

The 'long gun registry' is about hunters and hunting guns, not our little micro-community and our Tavors.

Some call it paranoia, others call it preparedness. Its a pretty fine line.

Except they don't need to pass legislation to restrict/prohibit firearms. They could have made a big show about getting those nasty, dirty black guns off the streets while not affecting hunters and whatnot.

At this point, anyone who thinks the CPC is going to get a majority is living in Disneyland. Unless things improve, we're looking at a reduced minority according to several recent polls. That should put all of us into overdrive slagging down the NDP, because if they decide to form a government with the Liberals it will be the end of the black guns. No two ways about that.

I'm a little sceptical of every party with regards to this issue, the Conservatives included. At the end of the day, the Conservative politicians are, first and foremost, politicians.

This issue has mobilized the Conservative base. Everyone who is on this site is going to get out and vote, and most of us are going to vote Conservative. This issue has actually been a benefit to the CPC in this regard, and could in the end result in a majority government for them.

I will be watching damned close to see how long it takes them to scrap the LGR, once they are elected. If it takes longer than 6 months to get this done, we will all have to ask ourselves if our values (in this case, the right to gun ownership) have simply been used for political currency.

I personally will be meeting with my local CPC rep, Tony Clement, at the end of the month at the Shooters Rendezvous in Sundridge. I will be telling him exactly what I have said above, and that I will be measuring his performance in particular on this issue. I hope all of you will do the same; BEFORE the election, tell your CPC (or whomever) that you are expecting expeditious results on this issue, and that you WILL BE WATCHING.

Then, watch.

To answer the original question a bit more specifically; I don't think that if the LGR is scrapped that we will see a big change in the lexicon of classification. Scrapping the LGR will require a CPC majority, and they will not likely allow shenanigans like this to carry on.

We'll have to wait and see...

...what ol'blacky said. Politicians, in my observations, are a bunch to promise whatever they have to to get the cushy jobs, and then it takes forever, or at least not before the end of their term, to carry through with their promises.

Talk to your candidates, ask them pointedly what they're going to do about what's your issue, then hold them to it. Watch them, and get on their cases if they seem to have used your vote to get the cushy job. ol'blacky's got a brilliant idea, here.

It's a funny thing, how much work from the populace a democracy can take, eh?
