I bought a new .223 and just tried it out with a bunch of odd factory ammo I had kicking around. Turns out it loves the Black Hills 60gr. SP load (red box of 50rds) so I'm trying to find some more. Has anyone seen any Black Hills ammo around?

I've found Blackhills hit and miss. Your best bet is to embrace hand-loading, especially if you want the best ammo you can get.
You can make better ammo, cheaper assuming you want to spend the time at it.

It's hard to find in Canada.
However, Federal Gold Medal Match 69 grain will probably duplicate your results.
Try a box.
Firearms Outlet Canada stocks it, for one.

Tier One doesn't carry it anymore. Rampart was a limited deal it seems like. There is apparently an issue at the distributor level that makes this a difficult product to carry. I have ordered cases of 77gr OTM most recently through Lockhart. Best to email to see what is actually in stock as the website doesn't seem to reflect live inventory.

Thanks guys.

Wasn't going to bother hand loading for this one, but it's proving to be very finicky. It liked the 60gr. SP in the Black Hills, so I'm going to try some of those (Hornady 60gr. Spire Point, I think) and see if I can duplicate to accuracy. Gun was 1.5-3" with a bunch of odds and ends ranging from 55gr. bulk FMJ to 75gr. match, then suddenly sub-MOA with the 60gr.

Ran into the owner of Gothic Line Armoury, looks like they are looking at Sierra Bullets as well, and at a very competitive price.

I bought some Black Hills .223 at P&D in Edmonton, pretty sure that was 68 or 69 grain in the 50 round boxes.

I also bought some Black Hills 9mm ammo from Phoenix Range in Edmonton, and I think they also had some selection of it in .223.

I have found Blackhills to be less consistent than other factory match ammo....not worth the $$ in my opinion.
If you’re only looking at factory ammo, FGMM is about the best but in a lighter projectile the Federal loaded with 55gr Nosler Ballistic Tips is pretty well ‘match’ quality as well...

Heading out today to test 75 grain Hornady in my Savage Hog Hunter, but at over a buck a round it is expensive.

Now that makes reloading look cheap. My homeload recipe from 25 years ago (55g. for varmints) gives me sub MOA 5 shot groups at 100 yards. American Eagle 55g. over 3 MOA. I'm back reloading. BTW, I have not even tried to fine tune these loads yet; that is a job for this winter.

Been talking with Rob at Gothic Line Armoury. Good guy to talk to, takes his business seriously. Just ordered up some 5.56 77gr OTM (civilian Mk262 Mod 0 or 1 need to receive it so i know which) for my Mk 12 Mod 0 (PRI built upper).

I was excited to see another firearms vendor in Calgary after noting this post. I checked the website and noted the address and hours, I thought the location was rather out of the way being off in a far corner of the city. I drove on out one day and was greeted by a UPS Store, the business address listed on their own website is a rental PO Box..... There was no notation on the website that there is no physical storefront.

Edit: Thanks for Rob from GLA for reaching out to me about my inconvenience, I believe he will clarify things on the website to prevent future confusion. Cheers.

Yes they are a web store like so many others trying to keep the costs down, just like dealing with Amazon dealers.

All my purchases from Gothic were easy, their website was pretty straight forward.

Before driving anywhere I will shoot an email off, ever notice some storefronts are closed on different days?

Or well, I am enjoying my ammo from them.

PS, I also use Google streetview, before driving anywhere new.

One does not need to hit Google Streetview when it’s at a familiar mall rather than some mysterious industrial area, especially 100-odd meters from a Home Depot. I’m just saying they should make an obvious note on their website about not having a retail location & being a webstore only, perhaps right next to the address that they themselves put on their website? It would save them the negative reaction of potential customers getting their time unnecessarily wasted and burning $8-10 or more of fuel to get there. One simple detail, and an important one at that.

I have no experience with Black Hills ammo... but I 2nd what he says above. If you are chasing the best ammo that you can have, you need to get into reloading.
