Hey guys,

I found a picture of a collection of Browning Auto-5's and one really jumped out at me

A5.jpg

I PM'd the guy and he said that he had both the bolt and lifter "plated" by these guys with Black Oxide http://www.techplate.com/black_oxide_coating.htm They're in the States though, and that usually opens up another can of worms I don't want to deal with for this project.

I was just wondering if anyone does something similar in Canada?

Thanks,

Cory

black oxy is a crap finish put on metal part to stop them rusting, ie cheapo nuts and bolts, blueing is a more controled format and phosphate, aka parkerising is much better.
Lots of other bestter finishes today, just as liquid nitride, controled gas nitride, teflon or epoxy based resin paints.
If you want the old school look go with Phosphate and leave the black oxy for the china made guns.

Black oxide is a perfectly good coating for firearms. We do aerospace grade black oxide coating where I work, but there are many other companies performing this type of work. I often use Cadorath here in Winnipeg for large part black oxide, as well as black anodizing and electroless nickel plating.
