Hello,

I’m looking for information on the legality of a muzzle loading, fuse fired, black powder cannon in Canada.

Specifically, an American cannons golf ball cannon.

Does anyone have any info about black powder cannons in Canada?

https://www.americancannons.com/standard-series-cannons/

Thanks

I may of had a cannon....

1870 proof marks.... 3" dia 3-1/2 ft long. It would shoot 1/2 a mile and cut right through a car and not stop.

wonder how the buy back would work. It would be over weight for shipping.

I emailed the RCMP a couple of months ago re muzzle loading cannons as well as large bore shotguns. If they are antique, they are legal although you might have a challenge in proving their age. For modern home made cannons, if used to shoot projectiles they are prohibited but if used as signal guns with blank charges, they are legal. Also candy cannons and orange cannons appear to be legal although a bit fuzzy on orange cannons

cheers mooncoon

Sounds like RCMP doesn't know the law either. I don't see how a matchlock cannon built tomorrow would be prohibited.

No, they don't - and you get different answers depending on who you ask. Take for example my Brown Bess, which measures out at 0.789202 which is actually over 20mm.

Depending on who you ask, it might be caught up in the OIC, or not....or an antique or not, or something else. It's a total $hit-show of a bunch of non-experts giving you their opinion.

And if that happens, I’m going to be busy cutting pipe and welding up cannons. At $2684 a pop, I’ll be loaded in no time.

Not just "Yes", but "Oh HELL Yes!" LOL!

I think I read a 'news' story a while back of a bunch of kids 3D printing out dozens of 'guns' for a buyback in the States!

I have seen pics of some really badly (but cheap to make) made 'guns' that were being made expressly for gun buyback programs in Mexico, too.
