I've used BP in my 45-70 and 120 and always had a card between the bullet and the powder. A friend wants to try BP in his 32, as he puts it "for ####s ang giggles". My question is do I need a card, did I ever really need a card between the powder and bullet.Should I use a filler instead because the bullet will probably be seated deeper then the neck of the case...Bob

I use a card wad cut/punched from a milk carton between powder and slug in my 32-40. Use a drop tube for loading and set the amount of powder to reach the base of the bullet when loaded to the correct length. In other words, drop a slug down the barrel, measure the distance to the base and work out how long the loaded bullet should be so that it is just short of touching the rifling. That may be too long to use as a repeater Also use a very soft lube such as SPG or 1/2 and 1/2 mix of lard and bees wax.
