Howdy folk!

I tried loading some .45 colt with 25 grs and 30 grs of BP under a 255 grs bullet. Also used a 1/16" wad between powder and bullet. Very managable recoil but accuracy is not so good - well, good enough to hit a steel plate at 10 yards but i,d like to improve it a bit...

Any suggestion to improve that?

Thanks!

i agree- some bores run as large as .454, which leaves a lot of slop around the bullet- the other thing is how HARD your bullets are- in a dedicated muzzel loader, the bullet , being soft lead, expands to fill the space left over to some degree- that's why, in the ruger old army for instance, they recommend a 457 diameter soft lead slug and the bore is only 451- same as the "new" 45 colt- the other thing i can suggest is varying your charge up and down till it shoots best- the manual i have recommends a charge of 20 grains of fffg, and i did a measure, found out it;ll take some 33 grains of fffg, and my accuracy load was 30 grains- - it's all part of the fun of black powder
