Used to shoot black in a 303 Martini years ago. Tried quite a few different things but it never shot all that well. I've learned more since then but have a bit of a prejudice against trying to get preformance out of bottlenecked small bore cases with black powder ever since.

That Martini shot like a hot-damn with the 45-70 barrel that got screwed on to it though. Sold it cuz there was not tang for a long range sight.

You have no reason not to give it a try though.

It will go Bang but the powder fouling will be pretty bad. I tried it a few shots and gave up on it.

It is an easy rifle to clean, so have at it. if you figure out how to make it work, get back to us.

You just can't get enough lube in the small bullet grooves to keep the fouling soft I found clear shot worked better so does 777 but do not compress 777

BP workd OK for blanks.
.303 Martini's NEVER used BP ammo since it was obsolete by the time the rifles were converted.

For that matter the Lee-Metford was the only rifle that used a BP round. The powder was compressed into a pellet and loaded in the casebefore it was necked. That wqas only around for a couple of years.
