Hey guys and gals,

I'm looking into buying a black rifle and a 1911. I don't really have a preference as to which company the manufacturer(s) are/is. The budget would be between $2500 with a max of $3000 for both. I know that won't get me the top of the line combination but I hope it gets me started. I'm looking for some recommendations that you lovely people have for both.

Thanks much in advance and I look forward to your responses,

J

Take a look at CanadaAmmo. You can get a Dominion AR and a Norinco 1911, for under a thousand.
There seems to be a lot of satisfied customers with these.

You can get a Daniel Defense AR (excellent rifles) for between $1700-1800 or a CORE 15 AR for $1100. Then I would suggest a SAM 1911 for around $500-600 depending on the model you prefer. This in my opinion would be a very solid combination to get you started.

I went the Norinco AR route and to be honest I wouldn't do it again.

The machining is sub par and some dimensions are not mil spec.
The bolts and trigger groups look like they were made by kids in shop class.

I have since bought a Stag 3G which I am extremely happy with and I also put together a Noveske Afghan with all Noveske parts.

The Noveske would blow your budget but most Stag rifles will do just fine.
There is also Daniel Defense which makes some very nice AR's in the $1500.00 range.

As for 1911's I like pistols with hi rise beaver tail safeties and good sights.
I also don't like firing pin blocks which are used in 80 series and newer Colts, Kimbers and some others.
I also don't like the non traditional look of external extractors such as those on Sigs and S&W even though there is no problem with their functionality.

I prefer 70 series Colts and Springfield Armory which are very rare in Canada.

Irunguns can probably import you a Springfield Range Officer for under $1,000 or a loaded for a couple hundred more. A TRP goes for around $1400.00 USD so that is out of your budget.

EDIT: Take a look at the Remington R1 Enhanced it looks very good for the price.

Daniel defence 100% for AR... Man check out the Ruger SR1911, I have one and it's running nice. Hickok45 does a review and for the money it's you best bet!

The EE is your friend! There are lots of morons on there trying to flog their used crap at full retail prices and they aren't worth the time of day - but a lot of them will haggle too.

I've looked at and was wondering what you guys thought about the Colt LE6920 to pair up with either the Ruger Sr1911 or a Springfield 1911? Does anyone here have experience with the LE6920?

Yes with both. My brand new Springfield GI took about 200 rounds before it was 100% reliable. Happens with most factory 1911's. Colt LE6920 is the standard many wish they could meet and few can boast that they beat.

You would be hard pressed to beat a Colt AR. As far as 1911's go, there are a number that fit the bill and won't break the bank. I have a Colt 1911 and a Remmy R1. Both are excellent and neither will break the bank. A good Springfield 1911 can be had for a decent price. New Remingtons and Rugers are excellent guns. Sigs are nice, but they may not fit all 1911 holsters due to the slides having a slightly different shape - I am really not sure on that one - I am sure that someone on here could chime in on Sigs. The EE even has used Colts once in a while for a decent price.

Someone said the magic words.

Ditto on IRG

Range officer both in .45 and 9mm (9mm is on sale)

http://www.irunguns.ca/store/handgu... Armory PI9128LP 1911 Range Officer 45 ACP 5"

This Colt with Magpul stuff is on sale:

9mm Range officer + Colt would be great deals

1199 USD + 899 USD = 2098 x 1.09 = 2286.82 CAD + 5% GST = 2401.16 + Shipping = About 2450 CAN delivered.

The only problem is that new range officers can be had all day long for $725.00 gun on gunbroker.
I don't mind paying a bit of a premium but $275.00 USD is a little much IMHO.

I'll be calling Clay at Prophet River when I'm ready to order a TRP.

I agree. However, most importers will charge 100-200$ to import from gun broker... unless you're buying a Wilson Combat, Ed Brown, Les Baer, or a Nighthawk Custom it isn't really worth it.

I was on the same boat for a while.

I did choose

-Sig Sauer M400 Classic
-Sig Sauer 1911 tacops.

The reason is both gun have good review on net as well a few of my local them. So at the end of the day, I'm really happy with the purchased.

Total cost 2800 $ plus tax. Both are brand new. You may source a Sig Sauer M400 from CRAFM for less due inventory clear out sale.

I can live with 100-200 brokerage regardless of the price of the gun.
At $995.00USD for a Range Officer I would feel like I was being bent over a barrel.

When the RO first came out I called Buffalo Gun Center and they wanted $895.00 but ai would have had to drive there to pick it up.
They have a driver bring it to the border and you get it and go through customs with all paperwork and permits done beforehand.

I have my sights set on a Les Baer for my next 1911.
