Just wondering if anyone else here is shooting an AR for LR. I recently picked up a Bushmaster Varminter and I added a Magpul PRS and Leupold Mark 4 LR/T TMR 4.5-14X50mm scope. Gosh it looks good. I need to start getting a load worked up. Put up some pics of your rifle if you got a semi and it is precision.

It is really hard to take good pics of rifles with longer bbls :(

We had someone shoot an AR in the last round of the 300m Frosty Farky in Sept. They had to set up some plywood to save the shooter next to him from being showered with hot brass :D
 
My spr clone, though I've changed the prs stock for a lmt sopmod. It shoots sub-moa with handloads, but still isn't in the realm of my rem700(s), accuracy-wise.

Is that even with playing with reloading? I doubt that my Varminter will shoot as well as my custom .308 but I think if I play with reloading I can get a consistent 1" grouping at 100yds (5 shot groups). I am going to start prepping my brass tonight...
 
With a couple different reloads (or Fed GMM), my spr-gery will shoot reliably .75-1.0"@100m. (Haven't shot this particular rifle past 200m).
My rem700 can do 1/2 that, or perhaps better with a better shooter.
You definitely should be able to get 1" consistently out of your rifle.
 
Unfortunately, due to the restricted status, the AR has little interest to me. 250yds is not quite LR.

If you want to learn how to get these rifles to shoot, look south of the border. They routinely shoot them to 600yds in competition and they have gotten them very close to MOA at those distances.

That is very impressive given all the parts moving about.

Proper match BR bolt rifles can shoot 1/4 to 1/3 MOA at that distance.

Jerry, I don't know where you are getting 250 yds from. As Genesse Range here in AB is 1000 yds but the restriction on ranges does make for a very limited use. Personally, I don't mind as I have the .308 Boltgun for non restricted fun (better ballistics too at longer ranges) but sometimes it is fun to have something different...
 
This past summer I competed with my AR15 in the ORA precision matches. These go all the way out to 800y. I had a blast and beat the 308 shooters quite a few times :dancingbanana: I used 75gr AMAX bullets at about 2900fps out of a 24" heavy match barrel. Surprisingly, some of my best scores were at 800y, go figure.
