hi fellow nutters, i'm thinking of getting a bisley in 45colt , with the intention to load it to 44mag equiv +/- . do any of you have any thoughts &/or exp with this?
First off, I highly recommend the .45 Colt Bisley Blackhawk, it is an excellent revolver. I've owned 3 ~ 7-1/2", 5-1/2" & 4-5/8". Circumstances forced me to sell 2, but I still have the 4-5/8"....
Ruger .45Colt chambers have cylinder walls @80% the thickness of the same gun in .44Mag. If you load .45 Colt to .44 Mag pressures,
you will be holding a grenade.
If you want to do that, buy a .454 Casull, and use .454 brass.
.45 Colt should stay within the "Ruger only" data in most reloading books.
The joy of .45 Colt (in a large frame Ruger[Redhawk,"Old" Vaquero,New Model Blackhawk,Bisley Blackhawk]) is that you can launch bullets which are
heavier than .44 Mag is capable of to a decent velocity (think 300grain to @900-1000+fps)
DO NOT TRY THIS IN ANY "flat-top" (new or old) or "New Vaquero" as they are Colt size (smaller) frames & cylinders.
