Hi. I'm just getting back into the shooting hobby after a long hiatus, (retired now so I can pursue hobbies) and was wondering about the future of BlackPowder in Canada.
Having read several online discussions there seems to be some concern about the authorities reclassifying BP and changing importation rules which would potentially affect its availability in Canada.
I am primarily interested in FlintLock long rifles. Those things really only like to eat real BP not substitutes. Percussion Rifles however don't seem as picky.
With the price of things as they are, I'd rather not invest in something, ( flintlocks ), for which I couldn't obtain supplies in the future, making percussion the best choice for BP shooting.
Any thoughts or more enlightened opinions on this?

BP is already a class A explosive. I don't believe their is any fear of BP not being available. I just came home with a traditions 50 cal flint. My regular supplier of BP has no problems getting more powder. I have four flint guns and have no reason to sell them. My next hopefully will be a double fowler. So far one deer has fallen to my Great Plains. 450 yard stalk will last 150 crawling. I felt like it was my first deer. Much more satisfaction that that a 11 point buck I shot 420 yards with my 308 Norma magnum from my stand.
More of a challenge more of a satisfaction.

IMHO I don't think there is anything to be concerned about with regards to BP moving forward. That could change of course but I would surprised as you currently don't even need a PAL to buy BP. Just picked up a pound of FFG for my cannon recently. I think powers that be have bigger concerns right now and their eyes on our other toys!
Enjoy getting back into Black Powder!

Snider, Nice one.
Were you using a Lyman Great Plains Rifle or GP Hunter?

Lyman Great Plains rifle the flintlock version. The day before I crawled up to a doe to about 60 yards and click puff f&&&. Fired every time at the range the day before. Flash hole plugged. Hunting with old style guns with patch and ball can be a challenge but much more satisfying. Been trying to get a deer with my Snider but hasn't happened yet. Maybe this fall.
