Here is a buck that has been hanging around my place for a year now. He especially enjoys taunting me when I get home from an unsuccessful hunt. He also likes eating the plants right under our window, and we regularly wake up in the middle of the night to chewing sounds. One time my wife opened the curtain after his antlers banging on our wall woke us up. Our window was partly open and she said "hi"; the buck's antler got caught in our window and opened it fully as he looked up. They stared at each other for 10 seconds and then he moved 10' over.

Nice lawn ornament Kristian!
Forgive me for my ignorance on the Blacktail species but that is a fairly good sized one is it not?

I wish I had a Bighorn Ram in my backyard, or two in November for entertainment! I have a steep uphill grade for a yard in the back so they would be right at home. 8)

It is a very nice buck. In fact I'd have to say he is the biggest Island buck I have ever seen. Which may say more about me than the bucks that live here

In all seriousness though, in my opinion he is a fine trophy sized animal.

That's remarkable! Hey, 1899, can you say "focus"? :p
Seriously, that is a beauty. I've heard they're a tough hunt. That's definitely a trophy for a deer that doesn't usually get over 200 lbs. This guy's a little bigger than that, I'd say. Any idea how big he is?

Believe me that I have gone over many a scenario of how to bag this fellow. Unfortunately there is a "No discharge of bow" bylaw in Victoria that carries a $100 fine. Actually, $100 would be an acceptable fee for this deer, don't you think?

There is a woodlot that is bounded by family housing, a daycare, and elementary school and a children's hospital. I am pretty sure that is his home. While there are walking paths through this forrest, there are also signs that say private property, no trespassing. I would guess it to be around 100 acres or so. Interestingly there were four cougar sightings in the area this year. Including one on the golf course!

what are the laws about bows in the city i DO no people who hunt animals in semi-reral places with bows.
if he was in my back yard i would bow him because i got alot of land and no one would be in my yard.
talk to ya all later

I've gotta be honest, it would be sweet to topple him, but it is nice to have such a beautiful lawn ornament too, as long as he doesn't start thrashing your property.
You could go shed hunting in the spring Kristian, you might get quite a stash from him. Maybe even get a cape and have a "replica garden Buck"
made. Although it's not the same as getting the trophy yourself.

I found a Bighorn ram skull a couple years ago. He is 13 1/2 years old, got the skull bleached which is nice but I keep thinking, man that would look nice on the wall........

Throw a lasso around him and drag him out of town :)

Maybe you need to borrow gatehouse's speer :)

I'd really like to meet the gals he's fooling around with in the rutt - bet they have some pretty impressive kids, maybe one or two of those will wander out of the zone :)

According to the police officer that came to my workplace to request that I no longer use my compound bow to shoot gophers in the North Industrial area...discharging a bow falls under the same catagory as golfing in a public park. It's considered a hazardous activity. Really, that's what the nice fella said
