I was thinking of making some 8mm mauser blanks and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about how I should go about doing this. I was thinking of putting a reduced powder charge into a 8mm mauser case, then topping it of with something like cornmeal the capping with cardboard finishing with a crimp. Does this seem feasible, or is there a better way. I do not have a purpose built crimping device for blanks so I was hoping to use the standard one. I realize there is already a thread asking this question, but it did not seem to answer my questions.

Generally speaking blank cases have a longer case to acommodate the crimp so they are still around the proper OAL. You could always just try and push the case into a thin piece of wax, and then do a light crimp after. But i am just kinda making that assumption out of that 9mm PAK ammunition.

Thank you for the input. I was hoping not to have to buy a dedicated die for something I probably was not going to be all that often. I guess if noone sees any major catastrophic flaws with my plan i'll go ahead with it.

What you are describing is basically a fireforming load as used to make AI versions of cases, etc. Since no one has been blowing themselves up with that, I would have to say you should be fine too. Feeding may or may not be great with the short OAL, though.

when you consider how a mauser works, if they do not have a bullet they do not feed well. For one at a time, no problem.

If you are planning on shooting these things in a direction where someone is standing then
(1) Do not use wax, which can and does emerge in a solid lump, and I have seen two serious injuries caused by this.
(2) Buy the proper star crimp die from CH4D http://www.ch4d.com/ and seal with a dab of emulsion paint.
(3) 11 grains of Bullseye or Vitavhouri N310 without any filler will produce a satisfactory report.
(4) many 98 action rifles will not feed short crimped blanks well, if at all.
