Blanks in semi-auto?

I know there are a few different types of .22 blanks on the market, but I have two questions about them.

1. Will any of them cycle the action of a semi-auto (like a 10/22)?

2. Regardless of whether or not they are capable of cycling the action, are any of them built to dimensions that would allow them to even be properly chambered upon manual cycling? For instance, those tiny .22 acorn blanks probably wouldn't even load properly in a 10/22 mag, let alone be fed properly out of the mag and into the chamber. Most .22 blanks look to be the size of .22 short or shorter, and I'm wondering if there are any out there that are "full size".

Thanks.

If you look at blank guns there is usually a rod down the barrel which not only acts as a stopper for something from being fired down the barrel but it helps direct the pressures back towards the case to help cycle the action.

Even shooting sub-sonic rounds might not have enough 'oompf' to cycle the action

If you want to shoot them, you'll have to cycle the action yourself and load them by hand

Thanks for the info.

Erik, I've used the BFA's too, and while I'm always hesitant about obstructing the barrel in any way(for obvious reasons), I had considered making one.

But before that, I need to know if there are any that will even chamber properly. Sounds like not.

For myself.

We're getting off topic now but... I built a makeshift SAT (Small Arms Trainer), similar in style used by miltary and police agencies. Take a look at the video clip of my version.

It just occured to me that I'm sure some people on CGN will find this interesting, so maybe I'll make a separate post describing it in detail a bit more. But as for the blanks, I'm currently exploring ways to achieve recoil when "shooting". I really don't like the idea of shooting blanks towards my TV, even with a proper BFA installed, but at the moment I'm just seeing what options are out there.

Wow, that looks like a pretty awesome hack. Good job!

okay, so shooting blanks in your living room with poor ventilation and freaked out neighbors just doesn't sound like it could possable end well in my books.

The smoke alone from the blanks going off in a closed tight room is going to choke you up sooner then later, I know this from using a hilti gun in crawl spaces that have at least some ventilation, yet poor at best.

Did it ever occure to you that the neighbors might just freak out at the sound of rapid gunfire coming from your living room??? I don't think any LEO is going to go lightly on you, even after you convince them that your shooting a blank gun at your television, I just see it ending well, not when the ERT takes your doors down or in the months that follow....................

its okay, you won't get any felt recoil from shooting blanks, even in a semi auto, your better off rigging up a solenoid driven ram with a weight on the shaft to help simulate muzzle jump
