I was poking around the internet and found this interesting rifle...

Blaser Professional R93 rifle.
In 6.5x55 no less, and look at what is on the end of the barrel...a moderator.

Anyone seen these in Canada?
Sadly without the moderator of course.

Blaser R93

I have one of these, albeit with wood furniture version sans "moderator". It's in .300 win mag, and I've really fallen for it. It is very light, it's really fast to cycle, and it is VERY accurate, i.e, .5 moa or better. I absolutely love the balance and the general feel of this gun.

The gun is in essence, an expensive factory switch barrel, that perfectly holds zero after removal and replacement of the barrel. The re-and-re of the barrel takes maybe 30 seconds or so.

The Blaser saddle mount is a quick removal mount that also magically holds zero after removing and replacing the scope.

Disassembly and reassembly amazes me every time I go to the range and extract the gun in parts from a really short hard breakdown shotgun type case, reassemble the bits and start shooting right on target at the same POI as it did on the previous range trip.

The trigger is factory light and crisp...... and for a hunting rifle in a manufacturer's world fearful of lawsuits, it is REALLY light, but it feels "right".

My only complaint? The magazine is effectively a blind magazine whereby the bolt needs to be cycled to unload if the gun remains in the fully assembled state (if the gun is disassembled, it allows the magazine to drop out), but it feeds smooth as butter.

Affordability could also be an issue but if one can get by the sticker shock, the gun is absolutely wonderful!!

Sometime down the road I'll be looking for a hunting rifle in 6.5x55 for my wife, and maybe a second one for myself, so I was curious about these ones.

I like the idea of the modular barrel system. My Benelli R1 has the same idea but a lack of dealers in Canada that carry the parts and an absence of the caliber I want kind of sucks right now.

It's nice to hear from someone who has on of these Blasers.
Thanx for the input! :)

Calum, if you can get one, do it. I have one in the Offroad stock, with a .308 and a .257 Weatherby barrels. I've shot .25 MOA with the .308. But thats not the best part. The gun just feels right. It's 6.25 pds, 6.75 in .257.

I would bet that once you learned to use it, you could hit a target for followup almost as quickly as with your R1 (which is also a beautiful gun, I must add...).

The problem here with the R93, is that once you buy it for your wife... you WILL want it, and they are costly.

Another advantage people don't realize on them, is that you can change it from left to right handed bolt very easily as well, so family MBRs can all use it, no matter handedness.

I just bought one the weekend of the Sportsman's Show. The importer's booth had a couple to look at, and since I had been interested in one for a few years I spent a bit of time there. I liked just about everything about the gun. Drove directly to Epps from the show and picked out one of the 2 or 3 they had. Beautiful wood, a little fancy for my uses, but I've been trying to whittle my collection down to manageable levels and concentrate more on quality than quantity and this gun says "quality" to me. Nice balance, handles beautifully. The straight-pull bolt is super fast. The top-load-only magazine is, at least to me, a positive feature...I hate detachable mags. I only have the one barrel so far (.375H&H) but I've played with the takedown/reassembly feature quite a bit and it works flawlessly. Same with the scope mount...totally repeatable.

Haven't hunted with it yet, of course, but was forced to "Blaser" a feral cat behind the barn recently...it was comin' right at me!

My only possible complaint is that Blaser will sell a Professional or Offroad stock (their two synthetic models) but since the stock actually incorporates the receiver it appears that it would be, from a legal standpoint, the same as buying a new gun. I've emailed Blaser about the possibility of a two-piece replacement for the wood on mine, to bolt onto the metal receiver that I have. Give me that, a barrel in .300 Win, another in .257, a couple of scopes and mounts, and there's nothing I couldn't hunt with it.

BTW, if you want a good source of info on these guns, check out Blaserpro.com.

Enjoy your new toy.
