Blaser R 93

I don't own one but I did handle one once. I thought it was a fantastic rifle. It was light, pointed well and looked fantastic. The build quanlity was awsome, metal to wood fit was great and the wood itself had very nice grain. I never did get to fire it. They are not chep but they are my list of "if I ever get the money!".

I caught last night's airing about the life of a red deer fawn in Europe on the TV show, Nature. I did not particularly enjoy the theatrical aspect of the show, but they showed a hunter who was using one of those Blasers.

Might want to read this before you buy a Blaser.

And this is some useful info as well.
BLASER
MODEL R93, RIFLES

RECALL: Blaser has been committed to designing and manufacturing the safest most reliable firearms in the world since 1963. In keeping with this commitment to our customers, Blaser is conducting a recall of its R93 rifles sold in the US.
What is the Problem?
The R93 trigger assembly uses stainless steel pins for corrosion resistance. We have learned that a small number of non-stainless steel pins were inadvertently used in some R93's. Note: the UIT, CISM, and LRS/LRS2 are not affected by this recall.
What could happen?
An accidental discharge from the off safe position may occur if an R93 with non-stainless steel pins is used and the pins have corroded due to moisture. In this situation, once the firing pin has been cocked (into the off-safe position), the rifle may discharge.
Warning: Use of your R93 rifle may result in an accident severe injury or death to the user or bystanders.
Stop using your R93 immediately. Do not use your rifle until it has been inspected.
What should you do to ensure your safety?
Removal of the trigger housing and trigger subassembly for inspection is required. This inspection should only be made by SIGARMS Inc., Blaser's US representative, located in Exeter, New Hampshire. Call the recall hotline number below to coordinate the inspection of your R93 rifle: Please contact us toll-free at1-877-442-7671 (8 a.m. - 5 p.m. EST).
What will we do for you?
Upon calling, we will inform you how to return your R93 and give you an estimated time frame for return. Once we have your rifle in our facility, we will conduct a complete inspection of your R93 and replace your pins if they are not made from stainless steel. We will also clean and ensure your R93 is ready for more adventures. Please do not contact the dealer where you purchased the R93, as we will serve you directly. We will return your serviced R93 to you along with an expression of our appreciation. We recognize the inconvenience this situation causes our Blaser R93 customers and offer you our sincerest apologies. We are passionate about your safety and we are confident that you would expect nothing less from Blaser. 8/03

I have owned 2 R93 Orr Road actions and 9 different barrels and am down to 1 action and 3 barrels. Somethings you gain with these
-relatively light 6 1/4 lbs and up
-about 3" shorter than a long action bolt
-faster firing - straight pull
-as accurate out of the box for each barrel you buy as a custom US bolt rifle rifle every time ie. 1/2" range at 100 yards
-Blaser quick detach scope mounts return 100% to zero allowing use of iron sight/another scope with NO resighting, same thing with barrel changes NO resighting, rifle therefore takes down small to travel
-one of the best factory triggers
-metal finish is rust proof does not wear off
-by changing bolt face, magazine and barrel you can go from .223 to .416 Rem. and now a .22 lr conversion unit
-decock action is safe with round in chamber
-bolt travel is limited by the magazine to what is needed for the round used

downside
-14 1/4" LOP is necessary if you shoot long action calibers although I find I can use this length when most of my regular bolts are 1" shorter LOP
-no ultralight options available
-cost currently Can $ you can buy an Off Road for $2500, scope mounts about $400, barrels about $900, in used there is an active used market in North America for barrels + mounts about 1/3 less at these prices you are getting a lot more gun and options than a Nosler rifle for instance
-scope mounts have more rear overhang than desireable (like a Ruger #1) and need a long eye relief scope
-a lot of people who have never shot one have a lot of opinions based on hearsay and internet wisdom
-safety ,this is an issue as this is a unique action with the potential for problems, are there problems - no one has successfully sued Blaser for damages, I believe this is still the best selling bolt rifle in Europe after a couple of suits were started, you can find internet pics of a lot of different bolt actions which let go in one way or another, a unique risk with an R93 is to say shoot some 30/06 ammo in your .300 Win. barrel- from a 30/06 mag. it will feed perfectly, this is where some of the problems originate
-trigger recall-all newer actions have the trigger marked all recalled actions had the trigger marked I would say there are no unrecalled actions left in Canada but if in doubt look at the trigger/verify it before you buy
