Blew it on a wolf - Season 12

Awesome pics as usual, thank you. I have seen hide nor hair of the local wolf pack this winter even though the elk herd, 100+, had been using a trail about 100 yds from my house for most of the winter. They disappeared about 2 weeks ago after we ran into them unexpectedly and my cocker spaniel thought he would go get me one and I had to yell at him to get him to stop, silly boy.
Yes we do but we seem to have most of our wolf kills at first thing in the AM, whereas we tend to see coyotes more in the afternoon. Also depends where we hunting, the hydro line has a snowmobile trail on it so we try to get out before the sleds start running. If we are hunting at the 3 locations we are allowed to in town, we cannot hunt after 930 AM as part of the agreement we have with the municipality.
Last week My73Jeep and I went out to the hydro line in the late afternoon - the moose carcass hadnt been touched. My trail cameras would show one sticking its head out or circling the carcass but wouldnt go near it.
On Sunday Paddle2DaC and I went out with the local CTC manager. We have permission to hunt in the municipality in 3 different locations. One we hadnt tried was on a creek system coming off the big lake in town which coyotes use as a travel corridor. We can only hunt in a small area of it with steep rock facing us and are limited to shotguns only. We decided to hit it first light as there is housing close by and we figured wouldn't be too many folks out at 6:50 AM. We got there before legal time, posted the warning signs, and tried some coyote in heat calls and female invitation howls, but nothing showed up.
After 30 minutes, we packed up. P2DC and I were going to hunt another spot and were deciding where to go. P2DC said since nothing was happening at the hydro line lets hit the blind up the highway. We drive up and everything north of town was covered with hoar frost which looked really cool in the sun. Nothing at the blind and we headed home after trying there for an hour
So that afternoon, I went out to check the trail cameras at the moose carcass and you know it, it looked like a bomb had gone off... Three wolves hit it during the early morning and at the time we made the decision to head north, there was a single chewing on what was left... Moose was whole on Wednesday and totally consumed by Sunday morning.

End of the season today
Well thats it till the fall - first time in years where no one in the group killed a wolf or coyote after January 1, and the coyote I shot in November was the only thing we got this year despite lots of hunting effort. I have been teaching firearms safety course most weekends this month so havent done much hunting. Give the rifles a good clean and put in the cabinet.
Pulled the trail camera at the blind on Monday - wife and I picked up a Tims and headed up the highway (after todays events we may rethink going there !!). Pack of 4 showed up at the blind - you can see the other wolves coming across the creek system in the background. I am sure this is the transitory pack that makes a loop every 2 - 3 weeks through our bait sites. Some nice pictures:
Also pulled the cameras by the hydro line as well - some activity at the back bait:
Was a weird season for weather - we got very little snow while everyone around us got pounded. Extremely early spring and most of our snow is gone now when normally we would still have a couple of feet and running sleds.
So all in all - bit of a headscratcher of a season - this picture says it best of all!

That is correct - we usually wait till mid November to make sure the pelts are priming up.
