Hey guys,

I picked up some Winchester Blind Side BB for goose hunting the other day and the guy at the shop was saying that he gets a better pattern the more open his choke is. It seems counter intuitive. Anybody else find you get a tighter pattern with Blind Side by using a cylinder or improved cylinder? I'm shooting a Benelli super nova.

Blind Side does not pattern well on it's own due to the pellet shape. Winchester has improved the pattern with the wad style. Your Nova should pattern the #2's well with the MOD or IMP MOD choke. I would even try the Full choke that came with the gun. Don't panic over FULL choke and steel shot. I bet your factory full choke mics at a loose modified. (X tra Full Turkey chokes excluded) I would try the BB's in the MOD choke. Don ZUTZ did extensive testing with Steel and conventional chokes and found that numbered steel responds to choke the same as lead. Steel did tend to have a denser centre pattern than lead. The IMP CYL and CYL would work over decoys but I mean over decoys 25 to 30 yards. Choke her down and see what results you get.

Thanks Darryl. The guy at the shop said it had something to do with the wad shape peeling off / breaking down through a tighter choke. He said that screwed up the pattern formation as it left the barrel whereas a more open choke would let the wad keep its shape. Seems a bit odd to me. Anyway, thanks for the tips.

I have patterned Blindside and have gotten the best BB patterns with an extended LM (Light Mod) Carlson choke... Worked on the geese this morning... They crashed with authority!
