I'm moving a bunch of guns around today and had my late fathers old Enfield No4 Mk1 sporter out and figured I'd take a few pics to torment the purists here lol. It's not too often you see a gold plated Enfield :) It's wearing 38 grams of 24k, this was done in 1974 by a family friend on my mother's request in secret as anniversary gift to my father. He wasn't as thrilled as she expected him to be lol. Anyways, here are the pics.

I'll offer you $600 for it, about 50% of the cost of the gold.;)

It reminds me of the white shotgun they used to have in the display window of Delisle Thompsons Sporting Goods in Saskatoon many yrs ago. There was a nice placard below it saying, "Available for loan for Formal Weddings".

I highly doubt it's wearing 38 grams. That's a lot of gold and plate is very thin...

It's super cool though. I love it.

Old sporter Lee Enfield, restorable: C$225
38grams of 24k gold: c. US$1300
The look of horror on your father's face on seeing it, and/or the look of puzzlement on your mother's on seeing that look on his: Priceless.

It is, there is paper work stating 1 troy ounce + 6g, that's 38 grams. It is not thin, the bolt is somewhat difficult to cycle and there is some visible galling in the gold yet the underlying metal is not exposed.

Thanks, I've always liked it.

Wow. That must be thick! I've had a gun or two plated by a shop before... But not like that!

It is cool as is but could be neat in full wood and dress. Of course you'd need to find the parts annnd get them plated. ;) let me know if you want to know a place.

Thanks for showing this! I sympathize with your father, back in 1974 gold had just jumped in value from $36 per ounce to $200 and that
was alot of money back then, not to mention that the LE would now be impossible for any self respecting man to use. Priceless for you!

Bought my first and several rifles there, knew Mr. Thompson well and Randy Bimson who later took over the store and name.
Often wondered what became of Randy, lost track of him after he left Brownells.
Sorry for the side-track OP..
