has any body put sling studs on their blr. I have one of those uncle mikes swivels. I hate it, makes the rifle look ugly. I was wondering if anyone installed just a normal stud in the front portion of the rifle. If so I'd like to know where. So I get rid of that eye sore.

I believe that the forearm is hollow or has a void to some extent. Provided there is enough thickness for strength I would install a metal plate and use a machine screw instead of the wood screw. Check the forearm bolt, I think it protrudes into the forearm void. The metal plate may need to be inletted to provide clearance.

Maybe not, I just have not looked at the forearm in detail for quite awhile. Wood screws might be used, or the machine screw with the provided nut. How the job is accomplished depends on the thickness of the wood and it's ability to provide a secure mounting point.

Try and find a barrel band front swivel. I wouldn't trust the forend in a BLR to hold a wood screw.

What SC said, The 81 forend has a hollowed out grove and it slides over a support rod. If you to attempt to remove the barrel band make sure you drive the pin out the right direction or you will mess things up. If it has not been removed before the pin should come come out left to right as it was assembled from the right.
