BLR in 243, or 22-250?

So I'm looking for a new coyote gun. I have a single shot 22-250 which is a beautiful and accurate gun, but we push bushes and a lot of the time are shooting at running dogs. Single shot not so good for this. I have a 270BAR which I have been using and works great but shooting the 130grain bullets the gun likes seems over kill. I then found out that there is a BLR in 22-250 which makes a lot of sense for me to be able take follow up shots, or shots on additional dogs, which isn't uncommon either.

I then have been doing reading and noticed that the BLR in 22-250 only has a 20" barrel and a lot of guys say it will basically take my super fast long range flat shooting 22-250 and turn it in to a .223. So then I was thinking maybe a 243 version of the BLR... Or will I still be suffering the same results.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Just a comment, if you are pushing and dogs are running, the distances you will be actually hitting them at will not noticeable with a 20" barrel. Unless you are hitting running coyotes at 300/400 yards?

Nothing wrong with a 20 inch barrel for coyotes In a 22 250. It will kill them as far as you can shoot. My ruger ultra light is real short and I made one kill at 400 yards on a sitting coyote .not sure I could do that every time. Lol Dutch

My opinion would be to choose the BLR in .243 Winchester especially because you've already got the 22-250.

Great all around cartridge with a diverse variety. From vaporizing gophers to taking deer. Wonderful rifle.

.243 BLR's are wonderful rifles, nice short throw. I think that is your ticket.

One thing to keep in mind, if you get an '81 model, they do not come with sling swivels at all. (I really wish they did.)

Gonna throw this out there. First off suggestions 1) bar short track in .243 2) rem 7600 in .243 3) nothing wrong with your choice of the BLR in 22-250.

Now I hunt coyotes the same as you and many others. I have learned it's more about where you put the lead than how much lead you put out there when they are running iE) a good accurate bolt gun may do you just as well as the above. Likely a bit cheaper, a bit more accurate and a few more caliber selections.

This is just my opinion. Choose whatever you feel good about. PS. I'd want to upgrade from the single shot too!

I hunt the same way. An tried lots of rifles.

I ended up with a Benelli MR1 comfortech and run Beo mags.

The BLR's I tried were 243's. With 58grn hornady vmax. Tried to like them a few times, but they just don't feel good to me with a scope on them. And 4 round mags blow.
tried a 7615P too, but hard to go back after running a semi.
For a bolt I ran a 700BDL 22-250 with HS-precision 10 round mags.

I also hunt with a BAR 270. A longtrac tho with detach mags.

How do you like the mr1. My uncle shoots one. I wasn't sure of the accuracy. I just noticed last week they are getting as high as 2k new! That's a little rich for my blood.

I hunt with the same BAR. It is a good gun for the job. Was just trying to use something with a smaller bullet.

Buy a Ruger Mini-14 Ranch Rifle. They are short and light! For pushing bush it would be an awesome gun. I have mine set up with an Aimpoint PRO red dot sight. You can't beat it for quick target acquisition on close in (200 yds and under) targets and it is accurate enough with the 2MOA dot to shoot in a pushing bush scenario. I know they are not tack drivers but even with the red dot Aimpoint sight I am getting a 3" group at 100 yards. Thats a dead coyote in a driven hunt bush busting scenario any day. 223 ammo can be had fairly inexpensively too which is a bonus. I am shooting Hornady Match Steel 55 gr JHP at a cost of $30 for a 50 round box. Thats just my .02 worth.

I like it. I got the comfortech model with the rifle stock and it's pretty nice to shoot. The prices now are pretty high for sure.

I have an aimpoint it. Took the scope off and ran the aimpoint in a 3gun shoot and left it on as it's pretty good for running targets.
