Have never shouldered one, but considering one to use with sights.
Drop at comb is about average or slightly more, drop at heel is more than some

Is the stock more suited to open sights use or a scope?

I have a pistol grip in 358win with a scope, and a straight stock in 284win with a Red Dot.....I like the straight stalk better as a hunting, faster handling rifle,.. but I like the pistol grip for sitting still with a scope. I also have to say that I much prefer the steel receiver action of the 284win over the alloy receiver of the 358win,... don't get me wrong the alloy receiver is very smooth and works flawless,.. but the steel receiver is a bit slicker.

The sights line up pretty naturally for me, even with a fat face.
Even better when I don't crawl the stock.
Getting personal maybe, but are you a small or a large ? )

I suppose most stocks these days are made for scopes. May just have to customize a BLR with a wood rasp

6'1'' and a decade past cheekbones .
FYI I just laid my old Marlin 30AS on top of my old straight stocked BLR and there wasn't much difference.
In photographs the newer BLR's seem different.
